The mighty Billy Crystal has struck out

... brag about. For one, he fouled off the second pitch down the first base line. For another, he made guys like me now wonder if we could do the same thing. Yeah, that's jealousy talking. Anyone else feeling a little green after watching him take a few hacks? Anyway, Crystalmania is over almost as soon as it began. And whaddya know? The sport still stands. 60-year-old Billy Crystal bats leadoff for the Yankees
Published 3/13/2008 by DCScrap at on 205th
Let's just say that he won't be batting leadoff again (or anywhere else in the lineup) any time soon. On second thought, he might be an improvement over Juan Uribe at second base for my White Sox. Big ups to the ever-vigilant Awful Announcing .

... , but not serious enough that they're willing to sign 60-year-old washed up actors. So here's his at-bat. Can this all go away now?: Congrats, Billy, you made contact. No please go back to your regular job of living off your late-80's fame and leave the striking out to Jason Giambi. > Billy Crystal's At-Bat For the Yankees | Awful Announcing

... and nailed himself in the back of the helmet with his bat on his backswing. Comedy gold? Yes, please. Crystal did hit a nice chopper down the first baseline, but it landed 3 feet foul. He even showed some patience at the plate, getting ahead 3-1 in the count on lefty Paul Maholm, but whiffed two 88 mph cutters to end his day. "It was ball four," said the plate ump of the last strike, right before shaking his hand.Heh. What a jerk. Of course, Awful Announcing has the goods. [Bloomberg] | [Awful Announcing ...
Billy Crystal Strikes Out (Video)

... menacingly over the head like someone who has done this before. Actually Billy Crystal has done this before. He played college baseball and has been a lifelong baseball fan. The Yankees are in his blood. He fouled off the 1-0 pitch and surprisingly ran the count to 3-1. The camera cut to Joe Torre who was probably wondering what the heck he would do next since Crystal was not really suppose to get on base. Thankfully the problem was solved when he waved at the next two pitches for strike three . More amazingly Crystal accomplished his full count the day before his 60th ...

... So, as Pirate fans gear up to endure a record tying 16th
straight losing season, they can anesthetize themselves on all the hot
dogs, hamburgers, nachos, or ice cream that they want. And if you're
health conscious, don't worry, you can even chow down an unlimited
amount of Salad. Ugh! ***Below are two You Tube links for anyone who missed Billy Crystal's Yankee AB:

... to do in his first and only plate appearance. He worked the count pretty well, and could have drawn a walk with a tad more discipline. Besides, even fouling off a ball down the first base line should be enough to make Maholm blush.
So, if my math is correct, that should be approximately the last notable event to occur during Spring Training…we now return to your regularly scheduled boredom, as we count down the days until these games actually matter.

Your Obligatory Billy Crystal Video

... Yankees is not really a new phenomenon. To steal a cliche that's been beaten to death, at the end of the day, everyone was happy. Billy Crystal got to pretend he was Johnny Damon, Paul Maholm got an autograph, Robin Williams saw his first and presumably last Pirate game, no one got spiked by Shelley Duncan, and the Buccos were victorious. By the way, don't forget that tickets go on sale tomorrow for A-Rod's appearance next week at the Funny Bone. Video: Billy Crystal's At-Bat For The Yankees [Awful Announcing] Maholm strong ...

... it seems like everyone's having a good time: In fact, ask fans of pretty much any team today what caught their interest first, and I'm betting it was Crystal fouling off a pitch, working a 3-and-2 count, then whiffing on a nasty cut fastball. Face it, man: The only reason anyone's busting his chops over this is because of jealousy, and that's no fun at all. Heck, he's not even first: Tom Selleck and Kevin Costner have had similar turns, and that's off the top of my head. Thus far, Awful Announcing has the best version of the actual at-bat that I have found. He's promising ...

Billy Crystal Vs The Buccos, Video Evidence

How much pressure is Paul Maholm under right here. I mean, if he walks him, it’s ridiculous - if he gives up a hit, even more ridiculous - if he ear holes him, I’d personally finance a tickertape parade for him through the streets of Pittsburgh.
I guess getting him to strikeout swinging was an acceptable compromise though.
