Further Thoughts on Posey plus Molina Public Cry and Interesting Draft Picks — obsessivegiantscompulsive
I am still a bit embarrassed about my initial reaction to Posey. Not only was he considered a #1 pick by some, but he is the prototypical position player that Sabean loves: athletic, can play a number of positions, great defensive skills. At least I saw the errors of my ways soon afterward, some people still would rather have Smoak. While I can sympathize, clearly, at this moment, Buster Posey ...
Draft Interview — The Giants Baseball Blog- A San Francisco Giants Blog and Fan Website
After the draft, I had a chance to talk to the writer at thecollegebaseballblog.com , Brain Foley, and ask him a couple questions regarding the Giants' draft: Q: What are your thoughts on Buster Posey? Did he go lower than you expected? A: I know several places around the Internet predicated that Posey would go first overall to the Devil Rays but I never saw Posey as dominate to be the first ...
Bengie Molina Still Miffed About Brian Sabean's Comments — FanHouse
Brian Sabean , ever tactful, made an error in judgment following this year's MLB draft by pointing out that Bengie Molina , enjoying one of his best offensive seasons for the surprisingly not terrible San Francisco Giants, was on his way out. Or at least he used a statement about sunsets that reflected on Molina's contract status and made the catcher upset. Sabean said that [ Buster] Posey ...
Buster Posey, Conor Gillapsie both go yard — Frank's Sports Opinion
Comment on this post - (1) Posts So how cool is that?! Buster Posey and Conor Gillapsie both park one a day after the draft. Okay I’m not going to anoint them with greatness, but hey the future is starting to look pretty damn promising. And then how can you not like the fact that Buster’s sister is already sporting a Giants cap! Sis has style. Here’s Buster’s blast. ...
Giants Go Offensive In Draft — The Giants Baseball Blog- A San Francisco Giants Blog and Fan Website
The Giants 2008 draft could end up being one of the better ones in the club's last few decades. The Giants got two premium collegiate bats with their first two picks, then stole a few more potential first rounders with their 3rd and 4th choices. All the talk around draft day though surrounded NCAA Player of the Year and All-American catcher, Gerard "Buster" Posey out of Florida State. Posey ...
Open Watching Buster Posey Thread — The Front-Row Johnson
It's currently the top of the 4th, 3-1 to Wichita State on a 2-run home run and an RBI double. The commentators said that the coach for the the Seminoles calls every pitch, which disappoints me because we won't be able to see how Posey manages his pitchers. No base-stealers yet, but Wichita State seems like a running team, so he'll probably get a chance to show off his rocket arm. Bottom 4th, ...

Comment on this post - (1) Posts At first glance of the San Francisco Giants day one picks, it really looks like they may have come away with a really solid group of players. I’m hoping Posey signs early so I can watch him up in Salem.

2008 MLB Draft: Day 1 Roundup — The Front-Row Johnson
Let's give a warm welcome to the 6 new members of the Giants family, provided that the Giants can sign them, of course. #5: C Buster Posey After initially slamming Buster Posey in a fit of "why didn't the Giants take Smoak" fury, I'm warming up to to him. He fills one of the gaping holes in the infield, throws in potential for 10-15 home runs, and is inarguably the best catcher in the draft. ...
Worst. Day. Ever. — Ground Rule Triple
Horrible happenings in the morning that I wish I didn't know about. My boy Buster Posey gets drafted by the fucking SF Giants so that I never get to see him ever. And then Coco Crisp, as if trying to take out poor Aki last nite wasn't bad enough, charges the mound and tries to take out Mr. Badass Shields, which will surely result in the suspension of at least Shields, Gomes, and probably ...
Meet Your New Giants — San Francisco Giants
With the fifth overall pick in the 2008 Draft, the San Francisco Giants selected Florida State catcher Gerald “Buster” Posey. Many mock drafts had Posey going first overall to the Rays, while Keith Law’s depth chart had him at the second best draftee overall in terms of talent. This being said, Posey profiles fairly well for the Giants in the future.

Giants Select Buster Posey as Their #1 Pick in 2008 Draft — obsessivegiantscompulsive
ESPN Keith Law in the live broadcast says that Buster Posey is one of the top hitters in the draft period, not just among the catchers. Well, I won't say that I know better than the Giants and Posey is good enough to be in play for the #1 pick, much like Lincecum was, but I'm disappointed right now. One guess I have is that they didn't want to face a Villalona vs. Smoak decision. Another is ...
A pair of catchers go — Future Redbirds
Signability be darned, the Giants go for it there. Predictably, Skipworth goes next to FL. I’d have to guess Beckham will go next.
Meanwhile, the ESPN guys seem to keep fumbling their way through this whole…um, thing. Law and Callis have been great, however.
Draft Day, San Francisco Giants select C Buster Posey with fifth pick — Frank's Sports Opinion
Comment on this post - (1) Posts
Not sure how many different directions the Giants could have gone with this pick, but it sure would have been sweet if we could have gotten a bigger bat. The talking heads seem to think it’s the right pick.
Here’s the MLB.com write-up on Buster Posey.
