GALAXY v REVOLUTION
VIDEO - David Beckham scored his fifth goal of the season for the Galaxy in a special Independence Day match at home versus the New England Revolution.
His full volley in the 66th minute was the team's only goal. Despite a 2-1 loss, however, LA remains in first place in the Western Conference at their midway point for the season (6-6-3), with 21 points.

In what is becoming something of a regular Independence Day tradition, the LA GALAXY and the NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION met on the night of July 4.
The difference this time - at least from recent years, is that this key match-up coincides with both teams leading their respective conferences... David Beckham scored his fifth goal of the season, but as the only Galaxy goal, this was not enough. The Revs' Adam Cristman scored two in the first half...

The special Independence Day match between the Eastern and Western Conference leaders turned out to be the match that produced the MLS Player of the Week. Adam Cristman scored both of the Revs’ goals, giving the team their second consecutive POW award, after Steve Ralston was voted the honor for Week 14.
The Revolution knocked down Galaxy, but both remain at the top of their conferences. LA, however has lost ground, and Chivas USA has now matched their 21 points for a share of the top of the West.
