Tortorella Has Altercation With Fan
Capitals Outsider —
... During New York’s 4-0 loss to the Capitals on Friday, Rangers coach John Tortorella got into a spat with a fan sitting behind him. He would not comment on the situation after the game, and member of the Rangers staff threatened to end the press conference if the journalists didn’t stop asking about it (obviously upset, the only thing Tortorella commented on at length was the power play and penalty kill, like anyone really cared about that). Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski did some digging around on this. ...
NHL Wheel of Discipline: John Tortorella
FanHouse —
... Tortorella was involved in an altercation with a unidentified fan that involved the coach tossing a water bottle. So how did it all go down? Truth be told, I'm not really completely sure. It's clear from the TSN video that we linked to earlier this evening that the Rangers coach was going after somebody with a stick, but most of the rest of what we know came from the commentary provided by Gord Miller and Ray Ferraro. But now, thanks to another video uncovered by Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy and some on the scene reporting from Barry Svrluga of the ...

... that the league is investigating the incident. Tortorella made things even more tense in the postgame press conference, refusing to answer any questions about the incident, to the point that the Rangers’ media handler threatened to end the press conference all together. Did Boudreau ever ...

Weekend Roundup
Bangin Panger —
Even though it's playoff season, we stick to our guns, and not post on weekends. Unless it completely warrants it, like Carolina's oral fixation fetish. But now we can take a look back at the weekend that was, and provide some not so fresh commentary. Woooooooooooooooooooooooo. - On Friday, there was only one game on the docket, and boy was there some fun to be had there. The Capitals 4-0 shutout of the now listless Rangers was punctuated by a fan altercation with none other than John Tortorella. Now for Game 7 on Tuesday, the Rangers wrote to the league ...

... in addition to a barb about how he probably gets beat up at the bus stop. I don't necessarily know who's in the right or the wrong in this situation, but it's at least nice to see a media member not living in fear of the wrath of a head coach. Brooks has a bit of a history going toe-to-toe with Torterella, including last year in the playoffs with the whole water bottle incident in Washington. Some of what he writes and asks are legit although some can also be taken as a bit out of line. Maybe the Detroit Tigers media should take note. I don't know how many more fluff pieces ...
