Tuba Guy, You Will Be Missed
Hotdog & Friends — ... Sometime between Sunday Night and Monday Morning, beloved Seattle icon, Tuba Guy, passed away.  He had been the victim of beating and robbery on October 25th which left him with head wounds and he was at home after a stay at the hospital.  Tuba Guy was a fixture in Seattle sports.  Any game you went to, even Storm games, would have that familiar plodding sound as you neared the stadium or arena. ...

Rest in Peace Tuba Man
SonicsCentral.com - Massive Monkeys Representing — ... he was an absolute fixture at the Key Arena. I have nothing in common with the Tuba man and until today never knew his name. I would have looked forward however to introducing my kids to him when we went to a new game in the new Key. He made himself a fixture in our community and a part of my personal history simply by being there. He crossed all class lines, racial lines, and economic boundaries in a way that can only happen at public events like professional sports. Rest in peace Tuba Man. We’ll remember to honor you when the team comes back.

Good night, sweet Tuba Man
Randball — ... but one that gained its place in road trip lore in 2002 when this happened: walking to a Mariners game at Safeco, we heard a familiar tune being played on the tuba. We couldn’t quite place it until the man playing it took his lips away from the tuba and sang, “Girls on Film … Girls on Film.” We will never forget the sheer hilarity of that moment. And we are saddened today to make the connection between that story and this one. We are pretty sure our sweet tuba man, a Seattle icon, is the same one who recently died a tragically violent death . And so we pay tribute the only way ...

Deadspin — ... Opera and other places. Edward McMichael was never without his trusty tuba, the perfect accompaniment for the state of Seattle sports, at least in recent years. But McMichael, 53, died recently after being beaten and robbed by a group of teenagers in downtown Seattle on Oct. 25. He died of apparent injuries two days later. Police arrested two suspects on the scene and are looking for three more. A memorial is set for Wednesday night at Qwest Field Events Center. From the Seattle Post-Inteliigencer: He could have made a living in a band but ...

R&R’s Weekend in Review
Rumors and Rants — ... Perhaps more significantly, even with the loss, Buffalo has fallen out of the lead in the standings for America’s Most Tortured Sports City. With the Sonics moving, Mariners sucking and Seahawks blowing, not to mention the indignity that is Washington football, Seattle has rocketed up the charts in the past 365 days. The clincher was last month when Seattle super fan “Tuba Man” — their version of the Cubs’ Ronnie Woo-Woo, Broncos’ Barrel Man and USC’s Phillips — was murdered by some random scumbags. ...
