... S.I. Garces still fan favorite as he tries to return to majors And Drake’s® is a major company that has been providing the Northeastern United States with delicious snack cakes for over a century! Attempting a comeback to professional baseball this spring with the independent league Nashua Pride, Rich Garces is still an attraction, as evidenced by the Hispanic/Latino Night and poster giveaway held in his honor last week and the forthcoming El Guapo Bobble Belly doll promotion scheduled for July 26. He hasn t thrown a big-league pitch since 2002, but Sox fans still instantly recognize him. (It should be noted that no poster was actually given away last week. Garces, a Venezuela native, missed the season opener with visa problems, so fans were given a rain check to redeem their poster later in the summer.) ..."I m a big guy, what can I do? says Garces. ... EL GUAPO! Rich Garces is still mowing 'em down -- though he's doing it for the Nashua Pride these days -- and is the subject of a profile from SI.com's Joe Lemire. Lemire says he's listed at his "Red Sox weight'' of 240 pounds ''though it looks like it could be a dozen pounds or so heavier,'' and Garces metaphorically throws up his hands in frustration at his ongoing battle of the bulge. (''I'm a big guy, what can I do? All my family is like that. If I drink one bottle of water, it's like five pounds to me.'')

Manny Ramirez Will Tune You Out.

If you recall, Ramirez caught some heat a few years ago when he wore Oakley Thumps, complete with in-ear mp3 player, during a Red Sox/Rangers game in July of 2005. Well, Manny must’ve thought everyone forgot about it, cause he was sporting them again last night in Oakland. Baseball obviously bores Manny. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he brought a PSP into the outfield with him.

Losing Well
