... UPDATE: Per Pete Abe, Wang to the DL As he also points out they need a starter for Thursday and then have the All-Star Break. They could then use the break to insure that Wang's spot doesn't come up again until July 21st. Technically, he could return from the DL in time for that start, but of course he won't. Unfortunately, the Yankees come out of the break with 17-straight games so they will need someone at that point. ...

Fack Youk —
... CMW was sharp through five, ran into trouble in the sixth, and then left with a shoulder issue. He was sent for an MRI. Pete Abe reports Wang is headed for the DL and will be out about a month. This could be a blessing in disguise. Another DL stint could allow Wang a full rehab assignment this time, provided the organization doesn't screw it up again, and hopefully allow him to work out the kinks against minor league comptetion. Abe further speculates the neither Aceves nor Hughes will take Wang's turn on Thursday. Nady can be moved to the 60 day DL to open a 40 man spot for ...
Abraham: Wang Going to DL; Mitre Could Step Up
YanksBlog.com —
Peter Abraham reports that, after being removed from tonight's game , Chien-Ming Wang went and had an MRI and the team says he has a strain with bursitis. Apparently, he's expected to be back within a month. For the time being, Abraham says not to expect Phil Hughes or Alfredo Aceves to replace him. Instead, he suggests that Sergio Mitre could be the one to do so. Mitre is 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 5 starts at Triple-A.
Wang to the DL, but Hughes still in pen
Pinstripe Alley —
... In a surprising turn of events, Wang will likely hit the DL with 'shoulder bursitis,' but it won't be Phil Hughes who takes his spot in the rotation (according to Ty Kepner). It won't even be Al Aceves. The most likely candidate appears to be Scranton's Sergio Mitre.
Wang probably won't be on the DL for much more than a month. Mitre has done well in Triple-A Scranton, holding opponents to a 3.26 ERA in 30.1 innings, with 23 strikeouts against only three walks (and a fantastic 2.7 groundouts to every flyout). Of course, Mitre is already a ML ...

BASEBALL HOT CORNER —

Girardi-Hughes will not replace Wang in rotation
The Yankee Universe —
... Right decision by Joe, and frankly an easy one. It will take Hughes 3-4 starts (2-3 weeks) to get stretched out enough to be able to give you 5-6 innings. Wang is expected back in within a month, at which point Hughes would go right back to the bullpen. There’s no point stretching Phil out then putting him back in the bullpen after one start. That’s just begging for him to get hurt, and he has a long injury history as it is. Also, you’d lose Phil’s contributions out of the bullpen in the meantime, which have been huge. ...
