38 Pitches: Schilling: Want to know what a player thinks about trades like this?

38 Pitches: Schilling: Want to know what a player thinks about trades like this? Curt Schilling: The Iron Crosschecker. Understand before I make the following comments that I think highly of every player being named in this deal. I have more knowledge of the major league players other than Phil Hughes than I do the prospects. There is a recurring theme out there that Melky Cabrera is a far superior piece of the pie here than Coco Crisp. A claim I would argue adamantly against. First off Melky is a career .275 hitter to Coco being a career .280 hitter. Now we all know that ...

Schilling on the Santana Drama

Some snipe, but I really enjoy reading Curt Schilling's insider perspective on these things. I also love this line: The Sox have drawn the line at NOT including both Ellsbury and Lester in the deal together, the Yanks have drawn the line at Ian Kennedy and/or some combination of their upper tier prospects. Mr Steinbrenner's son has stated that their offer is far and away the best. I think that’s patently false, but let’s go another direction one second. Rowr.

... --- Curt Schilling, who's been positively expansive over the last few days, chimes in with a monster post that's part statistical analysis (a fairly sophisticated comparision of Melky Cabrera and Coco Crisp that leans heavily in Coco's favor) and part insight as to what it's like to be a player in the midst of these rumors. He also gets emotional on the topic of Jon Lester (''I’m biased, I know him. His character is off the charts.'') and waxes poetic about Jacoby Ellsbury. Great stuff. ...

... tonight, showed reserved support for the Santana trade in his blog while also offering some well-deserved sympathy for those involved in the rumors: Fact of the matter is the names being mentioned as possibly getting traded from Boston are all my teammates. Great kids with immense talent. I don't want any of them to leave. I also understand that there is a good chance NONE of the players being talked about will be wearing the uniforms they currently wear their entire careers. Players get traded, we get that, we also get that there is a side to this that makes us view it as a ...

... players such as Andre Iguodala and Emeka Okafor for being greedy and not signing contracts last summer, and Curt Schilling giving his extended thoughts about the players Boston would conceivably give up in a trade for Johan Santana. In particular, I loved Schilling's points about Jacoby Ellsbury and Jon Lester and how they rose to the occasion in the biggest possible moments, which made him leery of giving them up because that's his No. 1 test for any young player. Really insightful stuff. Did you ever think we'd live in a day and age when a pitcher would write ...
