Summer League: Meet the Team
Published 7/6/2007 by Adam Lauridsen at Warriors
... in my google search was the fact that he was 10th in college basketball for turnovers per game (4.5) back in 1998. Warriors trivia: Vonteego Cummings is one spot behind him. Williams didn’t fare much better last year in the Developmental League, with nearly a 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. I doubt we’re finding a back-up point guard here. Forwards: Josh Powell – I’m guessing the Warriors wait a bit on their free agent / trade moves before deciding whether to bring back Powell (unless another team forces their hand). Given his youth, he’d be worth giving another year so long as he comes cheaply. He needs greater strength to fight for boards in the post. We’ll see if he’s been working since the Warriors’ season ended. Brendan Wright – According to the Warriors’ summer league blog , he’ll be with the team as soon as JRich clears his Charlotte physical. Still, I’ll be curious to see whether Wright hits the c ...
Summer League: Waiting for Wright

Let the conspiracy theories begin. From the Warriors summer league blog : One thing that has been missing thus far at summer league has been Brandan Wright, the eighth overall pick in last week’s Draft that the Warriors acquired from Charlotte in a draft-day trade. Wright is feeling the effects of a strained right hip flexor that he suffered during his workouts leading up to the NBA Draft. Since he is not yet 100 percent healthy, the organization has decided to keep him out of action for precautionary reasons. The hope is to have him back on the court at some point before leaving Las Vegas, but the team is being cautious with him at this point. Even though Wright is not able to play, that doesn’t mean he isn’t learning while down here. He sat alongside Coach Nelson for the entirety of Thursday night’s practice session and the rookie was able to discuss everything that was going on with Nellie. First it was JRi ...

... The pair combined for 66 points in the Warriors Summer League debut. Mamma mia! In his 40 minutes on the floor, Marco dropped a whoppin’ 37 (1 point shy of a summer play record of 38, by none other then our friend Kobe), while Kelenna poured in another 29 in his 31 minutes. Most impressive is that the pair did it from all over the floor. ...

... (1) He likes the Warriors and Nelson will play him in a way that drives up his value around the league. The deal has a player option on the second year, so he can bail next year for a richer package; (2) He sees the writing on the wall as to small forward deals this off-season. With Desmond Mason, Barnes, Pietrus and other small forwards without deals, there’s unlikely to be much money left over for less-established players (even though Azubuike’s upside may be higher); (3) Warriors’ brass may have tipped their cards to him regarding their other free agent plans. Kelenna may have signed the deal with assurances that only one – if either – of the Barnes / Pietrus combo is in the Warriors’ future. Given Nellie’s love of versatile swingmen, Mullin and Co. were likely able to promise significant minutes for the young scorer. Kosta showed up in Vegas. Actually, it sounds like he’s been here awhile, but this is the first I’ve heard of it officially. According to the Warriors’ ...
