The 22-year-old tore a deltoid ligament in his ankle and sustained a high-ankle sprain in what one of the sources labeled a "low-speed" accident. Ellis underwent surgery on Aug. 27 and is expected to be sidelined for at least another two months. The cause of Ellis' injury was unclear, even to ...

If you're going to do something so Epic Stupid like that, the least you could do is have the common courtesy of eating it on a cool bike like a Hayabusa, or something.

But wrecking your ankle on a Moped is like losing your virginity to your mom's very old, ugly friend.  So close to an awesome story, yet so very far away.

Chron report: Monta Ellis wrecked his ankle in mo-ped accident
Kawakami — * Whew nice initial typo in the hedline ! A mo-ped. At low speed. That’s how Monta Ellis wrecked his left ankle several weeks ago? Not very James Bond. Not very LeBron James. ( Never noticed before how similar those names are !) That’s what Janny Hu is reporting in the Chronicle ...

Report: Monta Ellis was hurt in 'low-speed' moped accident
Ball Don't Lie — It's been nearly five weeks since Warriors guard Monta Ellis sustained a "mysterious" injury that ended in surgery on his new $66 million left ankle. At first, it was believed Ellis had sustained the torn ligament while working out at home. Later, team sources said it "happened outdoors," but "not while playing basketball." Me? I always figured he had just rolled his ankle in a pair of cheap Starburys. Lies, all of them! Jenny Hu of the San Francisco Chronicle reports: Monta Ellis was riding a moped when he severely injured his left ankle last month in his native Jackson, Mississippi, sources ...

Monta Ellis was injured in a moped accident
NBA Noise — First, Monta Ellis lied about the situation in which he tore a deltoid ligament in his ankle and sustainined a high-ankle sprain, saying that it happened during a pick-up game. Then he came clean that he in fact wasn't playing basketball when he got his injury. Ooh, the plot thickens. Today we learn the real origin of Ellis' injury -- which was sustained in a "low speed" moped accident. For some reason I was hoping for something a bit more dramatic. As the San Francisco Chronicle reports the Warriors have the option to terminate Ellis' newly signed $66 million deal, because riding a moped is prohibited under the uniform player ...

(h/t: Awful Announcing) NBA: It turns out Monta Ellis was injured in a "low-speed" moped accident. Baron Davis is on Jenny Craig? ...

Corpulent bearded hippie + ‘82 Puch = nothing good.
Fear The Beard — First the economy goes to crap, now this. Look, I’m not going out on a moped. No way, no how. That’s just not me. Unfortunately, the Matthew dubbed, “Ankle-gate” has now officially been renamed, “Moped-gate”. Weaksauce. Those penny-pinching Warriors
The Globe and Mail - From Deep — You ever wondered why the NBA has a player's union? Maybe not. But wonder for a moment: Here is a performance-based endeavour where even the worst-paid guys are rich by any sensible standard. Public scrutiny is absurdly high, so it would be pretty hard for ‘The Man' to really get away with, I don't know, employing kiddie labour. And as for working more than the allotted hours a week without overtime or whatever most existing labour laws call for, well not a big concern: Six hours is a long work-day for these guys. Even Pat Riley recognizes that you can only grind a body for so long before it turns into dust, which is bad for the interests of 'The Man'. But ...

Guess We Know How Monta Ellis Spent His Time Off
Larry Brown Sports — I was pretty excited to watch the Cavs/Warriors game Friday night for several reasons. For one, the back end of the ESPN Friday night double-header was the Winter X Games. Secondly, the Clippers/Thunder were the only opposite game on the West Coast. Third, any game in which LeBron is playing is interesting. And lastly, the game marked the return of Monta Ellis. Monta really impressed me last year as he emerged to average over 20ppg in only his third year in the league. Most of all, it’s the youngster’s quickness that separates him from the competition. As a restricted free agent, the Warriors signed him to a big deal, and he went out ...
