Darius' mystery drug revealed....

The mystery is over. All that speculation from last week can now be put to rest. Had Darius Miles been secretly been suspended for marijuana offenses that no one knew about? Or had he used steroids or some other performance-enhancing drug to speed up his knee recover? ...
Darius Miles Took Diet Pills

Marc Stein from ESPN breaks the news. Read the story here. Here's the quote.
Sources say that all 30 teams were notified this week by league memorandum that the drug which earned Portland Trail Blazers castoff Darius Miles a 10-game suspension to start next season -- if Miles can find a job -- is the appetite suppressant phentermine.
A weight-loss drug, basically.
Steep as a 10-game ban is, then, Miles' choice is nothing bound to scare teams away from signing him. Miles has tried out for at least four clubs already this month -- ...
Warriors Want Lou
Published 7/20/2008 by Brian at Depressed Fan
According to Marc Stein, the Warriors might just sign Lou Williams to an offer sheet. Apparently they want to corner the market on Monta Ellis's, poor-man's version or otherwise. I don't see how they could possibly defend anyone with Ellis, Lou and Maggette on the floor at the same time, then again, defense doesn't seem to be much of a concern to them these days. The Sixers can match, I'm just not sure if they have a threshold where they won't match. Is it more important to avoid foolish longterm contracts, like Willie Green's, or is it more important to keep this young core together? That's the question Ed Stefanski may have to answer ...

Now Khimki BC, a team from Russia, signed Carlos Delfino this week, leaving the Toronto Raptors for a nearly 3 million euros annually. One expert on the matter says that equates to an NBA salary of more than $9 million when you factor in the exchange rate and the tax money Delfino won’t have to give back. The same team is also trying to sign Delfino’s former Toronto teammate, Jorge Garbajosa, despite interest from the San Antonio Spurs. Garbajosa is fresh off securing his release from the Raptors last month after a serious leg injury. Garbajosa has been rumored to accept a deal from his hometown club in Spain, Unicaja Malaga. - SpursReport ...
Louis Williams: The Forgotten Sixers Free Agent
Published 7/20/2008 by Dannie at Recliner GM
We are deep into the Sixers off-season, and thus far most of the conversation has been about the Elton Brand signing, the Andre Iguodala contract situation and the 76ers summer league squad. So it got me thinking, what about Louis Williams?
There hasn’t been much talk about the fans’ feelings regarding his future with the team and his contract situation. Williams hasn’t received any offers so far this season although many teams have reported interest. The most recent 76ers-related rumor is that the Golden State Warriors may be looking to pair Sweet Lou with another electric combo guard Monta Ellis. ...

... offensive games to Atlanta. The question is, though, what would the Hawks do with their current three, Marvin Williams? They had developed an emerging combination of Williams outside the paint, Smith attacking the rim, and Al Horford defending the basket. How would the addition of Howard shake things up? This deal is all speculation at this point, but as the summer goes on without an offer for Smith, a sign-and-trade could become a more viable option.
Stein also commented about this on his weekend report.
I wonder, for example, if ...
The Wizards and Darius Miles: Why Not?
Published 7/21/2008 by Truth About It (noreply@blogger.com) at Truth About It - Washington Wizards Blog
The Washington Wizards would like to have a small forward to backup Caron Butler. Darius Miles would like to be a member of an NBA team. Could the two be a match? At face value, Miles would be far from the shooter the Wizards should desire for spot action. On the other hand, he is still freakishly athletic and could provide a combustible punch of energy off the bench for a team needing a push. Darius Miles could be seen as a low-risk, high-reward option, and he's only 26. Darius Miles the person raises several red flags. Number one is knee issues. He had microfracture surgery in November 2006 and an independent source dubbed his injury ...
Josh Childress Really Doesn't Want to Re-Sign
Published 7/21/2008 by Bret LaGree (noreply@blogger.com) at Hoopinion
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Josh Childress is in Greece today to meet with Olympiakos to discuss a 3-year, $20 million contract. Discussions might move quickly into consummation: Childress, 25, is so flustered with the Hawks’ refusal to make a sign-and-trade deal to another team, one source familiar with his thinking believes there’s “better than a 50-50 chance” he’ll sign with Olympiakos. The team also will cover the Greek taxes for Childress, making it even more lucrative. “Unless he just gets there and doesn’t like it at all, I think he’s going to go,” one league source said. This, I guess, is ...

So Long Lou?
Published 7/21/2008 by Roland Laird at NJ.com: Sixers Shots
If ESPN's Marc Stein is to be believed , there's a good chance that Lou Williams will be playing for the Golden State Warriors next season. Given Williams perceived value around the league, it would be a mistake for the Sixers to just let him go. A sign and trade might be the best way to go. The problem is--for who?
The Warriors are interested in Lou Williams
Published 7/21/2008 by EnriqueFed (noreply@blogger.com) at ALL THINGS PHILLY SPORTS
The Golden State Warriors have some cap space to play with, so they are honing in on a Sixers guard who is a restricted free agent. No, they don't want Andre Iguodala, but, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, they apparently are looking into signing Louis Williams to an offer sheet. While the Sixers have publicly said they would match any offer sheet given to either Williams or Iguodala, the Warriors might have enough cap space to offer Williams a bloated contract that the Sixers would think twice about matching. Williams makes plenty of sense for the Warriors due to the instant offense and no defense he provides, sort of like a very poor man's ...

As if that were not enough problems for Stern and the NBA, there is a problem looming that may be even tougher to find a solution to. About Those Expiring Contracts…
Published 7/22/2008 by Amar Panchmatia at Cavalier Attitude
About Those Expiring Contracts… For an NBA General Manager, an eight-digit expiring contract is the equivalent of an orgasm. Having one is the best feeling in the world. But over the past several years, the ways in which GMs utilize these massive amounts of expiring money has changed. Having an expiring contract or soon-to-be expiring contract used to mean that you were planning to become a major player in free agency. Teams would align their payroll in such a way as to target a specific offseason to have the cap room necessary to make a major splash. But recently, the way GMs use this weapon of expiring contracts has changed. The best example? How about the Lakers ...
Former Cal-State Fullerton Guard, Bobby Brown is Finally Getting the Attention He Deserves
