Looking to lock up one of the best pitchers in baseball into the next decade, the Diamondbacks have resumed talks with ace Brandon Webb on a contract extension, and it appears the sides are getting closer to a deal. ... The D-backs are engaged in talks with Brandon Webb to extend his contract beyond 2010. Although negotiating with a pitcher who just won his 8th straight game to start the year might not be the best timing, Webb certainly deserves it. History has proven (Barry Zito, we are looking at you) that long-term contracts for pitchers are not generally a good idea, but Webb certainly has earned some security and a bigger paycheck. I will certainly argue, and do frequently as a matter of fact, that Webb has replaced Santana as the best pitcher in baseball. It may be ...
