Video - Webber & Sprewell in the Barber Shop Links10
From the great Nike "barbershop" commercials. Two thoughts on this one. First, it was clearly a bad idea to trash-talk Charles Barkley. Second, when Sprewell said (about Webber), "he's too high, he's too high!", what exactly was he referring to?

Good times--the future seemed bright at the time for the W's.

Little did they know that Barkley & the Suns would sweep them in the playoffs, then they'd fumble away Webber and Nelson and slip into that 12-year playoff drought.

I'm just glad BD and J-Rich didn't do any anti-Dirk commercials this year.

Long Live the NBA Live 95 Golden State Warriors
Published 11/20/2007 by Jim at Green Bandwagon: Front Page Posts
According to the schedule the Golden State Warriors are coming to town tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have frequently expressed my love for NBA Live 95. It was one of the watershed games of the 90s. And unlike football, which got better and better with the Madden and NCAA franchises, basketball video games may have been at their peak in the mid 90s. To be fair I have not played a ton of the newer editions. But in limited gaming I have been impressed by the moves, features, and graphics. Yet they were not that fun to play. Regardless NBA Live 95 is legit. And if you have ever played that version you know that the Golden State Warriors were fantastic. Bo Jackson, ...

C-Webb Is Returning to the Bay Area
Published 1/29/2008 by Marcel Mutoni at SLAM Online
by Marcel Mutoni One of the least expected reunions in League history has pretty much become official: Chris Webber is a Golden State Warrior again. The team that drafted him first in the ‘93 draft will announce that he has signed for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 Million today, and is set to rejoin his former nemesis, coach Don Nelson. With Golden State not scheduled to practice again before Friday’s home game against the Bobcats and ex-Warriors guard Jason Richardson - and a five-day break immediately following - Webber’s debut is likely to come during a nationally televised ...

That sound you hear is all of Golden State shaking their heads

With all this C-Webb reunion talk of late, you have to wonder whether Nellie and the warriors have ever been told, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” With that in mind, I thought i’d take you back to his “glory days” with the Warriors. ...

Chris Webber and Don Nelson: Reunited (And It Feels So Good)
Published 1/29/2008 by Chris at Intentional Foul
That’s right Oaktown, the prodigal son is returning. Chris Webber, the 1993 overall first pick of the Orlando Magic—then traded to Golden State for Penny Hardaway—is preparing to return to Oakland, although, he’s a little bit worse for wear… and older. He’ll be joining a team that shocked the NBA population last year with playoff victory over the Dallas Mavericks, the league’s best team at that time. Of course, Webber will also be rejoining the coach who motivated him to leave Golden State in the first place, Don Nelson. Apparently, some water has passed under the bridge these two ...

Ugh. While you wait for the traditional dope Atma recap on a not-so-dope-game, let's hop into the wayback machine and go to a time when things were better in Warriorland. See, now that C-Webb has joined the ranks again, many of us are filled with glimmers of hope. For as much as we cannot deny his age, we also cannot deny his skill, his hoops IQ, and overall god given talent for the game of basketball. So let us reach back into our inner depths and think back to when Webber and the Warriors gave us the warm and fuzzies. A time when your very own GSoM boys were rockin' Hypercoler shirts in 7th and 8th grade. A time when BMX ruled the ...

The Internets are alive: Reaction to Chris Webber's retirement
Published 3/26/2008 at Ball Don't Lie
On the same day Chris Webber announced his retirement, his 1999 hit CD '2 Much Drama' also went out of stock. (At least, I think it did. I hadn't checked that website in over eight years.) Here's what they're saying out in the blogosphere about C-Webb's sad news ...  Stet Sports Blog: "Webber was supposed to be power forward 2.0, until controversy, injury and Kevin Garnett all came along and derailed that notion. He'll be remembered more for dating Tyra Banks than his five all-star appearances, and more for being a budding hip-hop producer than a career 20 ppg-9 rpg-4 apg player. ...

Chris Webber Retires After 15 Golden Years
Published 3/27/2008 by Atma Brother ONE <info@goldenstateofmind.com> at Golden State Of Mind: Front Page Posts
Earlier this morning Chris Webber and the Golden State Warriors held a press conference announcing his retirement from the NBA. After 15 years of drama there's plenty to smile about! (AP Photo/Ben Margot) Jump for the jam like CWebb could during the Fab 5 era! Here's a snippet of the press conference: You can check out the full video of the press conference over on Warriors.com. In his press conference Webber alluded to wanting to stay around professional hoops and that 2 teams had already ...

The Dunk, the Commercial--and the Aftermath
Published 3/28/2008 by David Friedman at 20 Second Timeout
I have already discussed Chris Webber's legacy from an analytical standpoint but no retrospective of his career is complete without considering the three part drama that could be titled "The dunk, the commercial--and the aftermath." It all began in Webber's rookie season, when he was a lot more athletic than many younger fans probably realize. Webber had the ball on a fast break, took it behind his back and dunked right in Charles Barkley's face. Barkley, the reigning MVP, and Webber, the soon to be Rookie of the Year, were both Nike clients, so the shoemaker featured the play in one of their "barbershop" commercials. With the great ...

MVP MIA

I know, plus/minus numbers aren't magic. They hide important stuff. But it's worth noting, that out of everyone who suited up in last night's thrilling Dallas vs. Golden State game 1, the player with the worst plus/minus of them all was Dirk Nowitzki.
