Great Moments in Plagiarization
The Hardball Times —
Friday, November 06, 2009 Great Moments in Plagiarization ESPN plagiarised -- and then un-plagiarised and apologized for plagiarising -- a story on my NBC colleague Mike Florio's Pro Football Talk blog. Best part of it is the first comment on ESPN's article after the correction was made: Jesus... at least plagiarize a legitimate site... you're now poaching off of a failed lawyer's sports blog That works for me on so many levels. Posted by Craig Calcaterra at 4:24pm Comments Tell the Shyster what you think:Previous Post: The Nats lay people off ...

... I just caught a really interesting post by Florio over at Pro Football Talk about how their content had been plagiarized by “someone in the journalism business” other than a “small, no-name blog site.” ...

Someone at the 4-Letter really messed up. But they will probably ignore it publicly. Hopefully Florio won’t let them.
If I was to find out that one of our writers copy and pasted something word-for-word and it wasn’t a quote from IMDB.com, I would be very ashamed. We may put out garbage on some days, but damn it, it is our garbage!
Will the arrogance of ESPN ever stop?

... character is above reproach, and my guess is that he won’t be happy about this one at all. (We also assume he currently knows nothing about it.) We’re not trying to get the member of “ESPN.com staff” who lifted MDS’ work product fired. But if ESPN is interested in syndicating some of our content, we think there’s a better way to go about it. You know, a way that involves paying us for it. Thanksfully, no one has gone all Erin Andrews and videotaped MDS naked in his hotel room. Yet. Well, we’ve finally been plagiarized @ Pro Football Talk

... A few days ago, ESPN’s Rob Neyer linked to a CSTB item, and if you don’t think I was thrilled at such acknowledgment, you’ve no idea how easily impressed I am. But that was just a tiny hyperlink. Imagine, if you will, the reactions of Pro Football Talk’s Michael Florio and Michael David Smith, upon seeing an item from the former provide such inspiration for the internet’s most widely read sports outlet. It’s got to be a dream come true! ...

... there were other factors that contributed as well. The Sports Media Watch says the Yankees helped to bring a big audience to the World Series. SMW says the World Series was a big hit in New York and Philadelphia. SMW has the ratings for the entire 2009 MLB Postseason. Good article by SMW on the ratings comparison between MLB and the NBA. And the SMW has some ratings news and notes. Pro Football Talk goes after ESPN Boston's Patriots blog for plagiarizing one of its articles word for word. ...
