Remember a few years ago when it was revealed that Mariners' pitcher Miguel Batista was a novelist and everyone thought "wow, it's rare to see a ballplayer with that kind of depth." We're now learning that he's not so deep after all.

What a switch: fan Miquel Batista meets his idol Kenny G

What a switch: fan Miquel Batista meets his idol Kenny G This so reminds me of the time Gates Brown met his idol Myron Floren. The Mariners pitcher and blossoming soprano saxophone buff was invited to a concert at the Dodger Theatre in Phoenix on Tuesday, where he spent 20 minutes backstage with his musical idol, Seattle native Kenny G. They talked music, baseball and saxophone breathing techniques in a private waiting area before Batista was serenaded with his very own Kenny G session. “He played for me,” Batista said. “It was my favorite song, ‘Alone.’ Now, I feel like I’ve ...

... This has got to be one of the funniest baseball-related posts of this young year. Mariners starting pitcher Miguel Batista, apparently likes the soprano saxophone a lot. Eventually, Batista took up the instrument as a hobby and not surprisingly idolized the king of the genre - Kenny G. ...

Kenny G. Meets Mariners Starter; ________ Blowing

Miguel Batista seems like an alright guy. Considers himself a bit of a role model, does work with various charities, etc. That being said: AROOOOGAH! DWEEB ALERT! Last year Batista took up the soprano sax, and just recently went all swoony when he met his idol, Kenny G. Your flaky aunt or your old manager at the Linens N' Things may have liked ol' Kenneth Gorelick but Miguel Batista fucking loves him. ...

CRAPPY PITCHER MEETS CRAPPY MUSICIAN
Published 2/29/2008 at With Leather - Sports news and gossip to brighten this short, dark life
... Miguel Batista mysteriously pitched kind of okay for the Mariners last season (I remember him being worse than his 16-11 record), so I guess that headline is slightly unfair to him.  In fact, I was going to apologize for it, but then he went and hung out with Kenny G.  His idol Kenny G. ...

Mariners Pitcher Miguel Batista’s “Idol”: Kenny G.
Published 2/29/2008 by Brooks at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Right now we’re sitting in JFK airport, drinking bottled water we just paid $4.75 for, so we really do need some cheering up. Thank goodness for Miguel Batista . The SEATTLE TIMES has a piece on the eclectic Mariner pitcher’s offseason endeavors, which included obsessing our favorite player on that celebrity golf tour thing: Kenny G . The Mariners hurler has recently taken up saxophone, and professed his love for Mr. G. in the Times piece , calling Kenny his “musical idol .” So Batista’s big moment came this week when Kenny G was playing a show in Phoenix. Since Batista’s ...

... Mariner has pointed out, the difference between Ichiro stealing 75 bags or 80 bags or 85 bags isn’t going to have much correlation to how the team does this season. And if Ichiro gets caught stealing more often because he’s running more, then he’s only hurting the ballclub. Whatever may be wrong with the Mariners this season, it’s not Ichiro. How about asking Richie Sexson to bat higher than .205? More Mariners … Headline: What a switch: fan Batista meets his idol Kenny G Comment: Eh, I’m more of a Chuck ...

Miguel Batista Is Now Lamer Than You Are [Kenny G]
Published 3/4/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
... ago here, but hey: We were on vacation. We've always kind of admired Seattle pitcher Miguel Batista. He fancies himself a Renaissance Man, writing poetry, performing music, generally being a different bird than your everyday average athlete. The bar a player must clear to be considered an "intelligent athlete" is a low one, and he seems to have cleared it. Until we learned who his idol was. The idol of this poet is not Emily Dickinson, or Robert Frost, or even Dr. Seuss. Nope: It's Kenny G. "He played for me," Batista said. "It was my favorite song, ...
