With all of the history being celebrated this week at Yankees Stadium, so I've decided to give you the player I consider to be the All-Time All-Star MVP. The players being considered are Cal Ripken Jr, Ken Griffey Jr, Steve Garvey, Willie Mays and Gary Carter. Who do you think I've selected?joshqpublic posted 7/15/2008 from joshqpublic.com
Teddy Ballgame may have said “They invented the All-Star Game for Willie Mays,” but in 1983 the game belonged to Freddy Lynn.Posted 7/16/2008 on Down with Goldy
I'm holding a sleeping baby, so who knows how long this will last, but here goes: - ok, the allstar game is mostly retarded, but the stuff with the legends is pretty cool. The ovation for Willie Mays gave me chills, and it was nice to see two of my favorites of all-time, Brooks Robinson and Rod Carew are still alive. - One batter in and this thing is already an abortion of announcing. Al Kaline was once asked, “Who’s the greatest clutch hitter you ever saw?” He responded, “ Willie Mays .” I immediately thought this was a peculiar answer. Al Kaline ...Posted 7/14/2008 on FanIQ Blog
During summer break as a kid I could always count on one quality TV each day: the old-school home run derby. Filmed at "Wrigley Field" in Los Angeles all of the major league stars, and now legends, competed head-to-head in a nine-inning battle. THIS was classic stuff. There's a myriad of reasons these derbies were better than today's glorified, ESPN drenched telecast. ...Posted 7/11/2008 on Zoner Sports
Joe Morgan takes more flack than most broadcasters. My opinion is that most of it is well-earned. But I couldn’t agree more with what he said about the All-Star Game : “Part of the reason the game doesn’t bring that energy is it’s a different game now. Now it’s considered an exhibition, where as before it was considered life and death. If you had Willie Mays ...Posted 7/9/2008 on The Mets Police
Yesterday we told you about a rumored baseball team that called itself "The New York Giants." We here at the Mets Police do not believe this team actually existed, because if they did, surely the Mets would not have totally ignored them while constructing Citifield. However, some do believe, and are going at great lengths to perpetuate this fraud. Look at this carefully ...Published 7/13/2008 on Major League Baseball News
