Be Careful What You Wish For, Indianapolis
Published 5/20/2007 by David J. Warner at FanHouse
... and would bring a lot of tourism money into the city, but it would also bring in a lot of journalists . This will be the city's biggest problem. Just about every sportswriter will look at that schedule in 2011 and say to themselves, "Aw, hell, I gotta be in Indianapolis in February ?" That attitude is going to come through in just about every story written about the city. You see, sportswriters are not necessarily the most diligent people. They're on deadline, and they don't always have the time to seek out all the hidden gems in any city. They'll look at a town on the surface, and if they don't like what they see, they'll bash it. More sports fans probably remember Tony Kornheiser's anti-Jacksonville rant during Super Bowl XXXIX than they do anything else about that city. When someone as well-known as Kornheiser attacks your town, good luck defending it. I enjoy Naptown, but this city's reputation isn' ...

When You Have Tiny Hands, You Can't Risk Injuries Like This
Published 6/15/2007 by Big Blue Monkey at I Dislike Your Favorite Team
... , the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting. No details are available about the severity of the injury, but the injury is to Culpepper's non-throwing hand. So Culpepper might not need to miss any practice time at all. Both the Fanhouse and the Sun-Sentinel seem to ignore how important Daunte's nonthrowing hand is. We are talking 84 fumbles in 85 games with a HEALTHY left and right hand. While the sportsmonkeys may overlook this injury, every GM in the NFL is adding it to a tally of reasons why Culpepper isn't worth more than 6th round pick. Edmonton beckons; so does Jacksonville, it appears. I'd take Edmonton. And so would Tony Kornheiser. ...

Jaguars' Stadium Needs a Name
Published 6/21/2007 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
... . "We've progressed to the point where there's 'significant interest' among possible sponsors instead of just 'interest'," said Bill Prescott, the Jaguars' senior vice president for stadium operations and the team's chief financial officer, who is leading the effort to get a name on the football stadium. "We have several companies that are showing a lot of interest. "But, there's nothing to report yet. Maybe when we start playing football." The city and the team will split the revenue from any naming rights. Maybe they should try to make Tony Kornheiser happy and sell the naming rights to Hooters .

The Jaguars' Fight Song and Scrunchies
Published 8/30/2007 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
The Jaguars' Fight Song and Scrunchies With the Redskins heading to Jacksonville tonight, let's briefly review the Tony Kornheiser controversy. Remember that one? A) Tony smashes the city , like so: "Have you ever been to Tampa? It's heaven, if you like Waffle Houses. Jacksonville makes Tampa look like Paris! Jacksonville has this one great thing, the TPC course with the island green on No. 17. (Which is actually in Ponte Vedra.) And the rest of it can be described with this phrase, 'Welcome to Hooters.'" Etc. B) Said smashing creates a big enough uproar that the local Congressman feels compelled ...

The Jaguars Are the Least Popular NFL Team
Published 10/3/2007 by David J. Warner at FanHouse
... It's not hard to imagine how the Jags got to that position. They're a team with very little history playing in a city that doesn't have the best reputation in the world. What's more, they're one of the few NFL teams that ...
