 What’s up with Wang?
What up, Wang? That’s the question Derek Jeter asks every day when he enters the clubhouse. Now it’s a question everybody is asking. Chien-Ming Wang is 14-6 with a 4.10 ERA. He’s a “problem” plenty of teams would like to have. But there’s no getting around the fact that he has allowed 16 runs on 26 hits in his last 14.2 innings. I literally ... [link]

Bronx Banter: There's No D in "Relief" Either, I Don't Care What Rolaids Taught You
Published 8/20/2007 at Bronx Banter
... victory in yesterday's finale. Chien-Ming Wang wasn't particularly sharp again yesterday, but he battled through to turn in a bare minimum quality start (6 IP, 3 R). Wang didn't get his second ground ball out until the fourth inning, but did record six strikeouts, four of them coming in those first three innings. I can only assume that Wang was working his slider more in the early innings then shifted back to the sinker as his final three innings saw him record just two more strikeouts, but six of his seven ground-ball outs. Unfortunately, they also saw him cough up his three runs. The Tigers cut the Yankees' early 2-0 lead in half with a run in the fourth, then took the lead on Wang in the fifth. Wang, who stranded five men through the first four innings including men at second and third in the fourth, really struggled with men on base in the fifth. Curtis Granderson led off the inning with a single then moved ...

... SO LONG, PAL: On the LoHud Yankees Blog, Peter Abraham writes that Chien-Ming Wang may be bothered by the release of Mike Myers, who was his best friend on the team and who tried to break Wang out of his quiet, introverted shell. Yesterday Wang wasn't as good as he's been all season, but he was a lot better than he'd been in his last two starts ...

Rosenthal : Mets Picking Up Conine
Published 8/20/2007 by GC at Can't Stop The Bleeding
... The Journal News’ Peter Abraham, while suggesting the Yankees’ recent release of Mike Myers cost Chien-Ming Wang a trusted pal, says of the pitcher, “my theory is that he’s trying too hard. He is the athletic focal point of an entire nation and all they expect is a perfect game when he pitches.” Aside from the country of Westchester, I understand Wang’s games are ...
