Read: Gammons Breaks Down the Mets
Published 5/27/2008 by Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog.com
In his blog for ESPN.com, Peter Gammons examines what we know and what we don’t know about the current Mets organization. According to Gammons, despite yesterday’s vote of confidence in Willie Randolph, the Mets are just 77-83 since last May, however: “We don’t know why Carlos Beltran sometimes plays as if he’s lost, or why Jose Reyes pressures himself out of focus, or if the Mets do the things they do because of overrated talent or underappreciation of the expectations that any big East Coast market presents. We don’t know the extent of misunderstandings on different ...

... . It will provide Mets fans their pound of flesh for buying into a team that didn't blast out of the gate. One month after Randolph's gone, how many of you firmly believe the team will be in better standing? That naturally leads to plan B: make a trade to send a message. That naturally leads to sentiments about possible Mets' roster moves , such as what Peter Gammons offered today: Maybe Minaya needs to blow something up, to do something such as trading Beltran, cash and pieces to a smaller media market and bringing back a package with Alex Rios and A.J. Burnett. Maybe ...

Piling On The Mets [Ugh Mets]

... . We don't think Willie Randolph belongs in Isiah Thomas Country — for example, Willie Randolph, as far as we know, has not encouraged an atmosphere where interns can sleep with players and get promoted — but man, this team has absolutely fallen apart. ...

Peter Gammons is a bit overdramatic at times. Some like to blame Carlos Delgado for not being Thurman Munson. Delgado will never be a baseball evangelist, just a fair, socially responsible man who never self-promotes. Recently, he apologized to Billy Wagner for Wagner's being left in a media storm (even though a family emergency forced Delgado to leave the park), he helped Randolph and Rick Peterson guide Ramon Castro through an experience with a new pitcher, and he pulled Reyes aside on the field during a pitching change to exact his focus. But somehow Delgado's bat speed and character have become blurred lines in the case of a very decent ...

Carter's flap shouldn't stand between him and the job (if it ever becomes vacant)

When Willie Randolph made his racially-sniffing remarks about SNY and the Mets organization last week, he apologized. The most boring press conference in the world reiterated the fact that Randolph is still the manager, and his "apology" has been "accepted" by the ownership.
