I have to question any analysis that includes Odom hitting a game winning three pointer :)

On a serious note, though, both you and Wages of Wins picked the Celtics to win, while I picked the Lakers. I think that stat oriented predictions like yours and WoW's may put too heavy an emphasis on rebounding stats and not be able to factor in something like how difficult it will be for the Celtics to defend the Bryant-Gasol screen/roll play. Your simulation can only work with the numbers it is given and since the Celtics did not play against a tandem like Bryant-Gasol the simulation cannot really address exactly what will happen when the Celtics have to guard them. Of course, the other possibility is that I am wrong and the Celtics will win. We'll find out in the next couple weeks; it should be very interesting.

Well, it was indeed interesting.  Odom didn't make a 3 in Game 1 but we correctly picked the Celtics in 6.  Was that a little lucky?  Yes.  But were the Celtics clearly the better team both on paper/computer and on the floor?  Yes.

BTW, do you have a link to WoW's predictions?

The Finals Pick
Five Tool Tool - The Sports Blog That Loves You Back — This morning, a computer honk site claimed to run a simulation of the Finals 10,000 times, and got the Celtics winning 64% of the time, most often in six. Show that article to any Celtics fan you know. Then, try to get them to bet with you. The Lakers have a coach that's won nine championships, and is 48-0 when his team wins Game 1 in a series, with an absurdly effective feel for gaming the refs. The Celtics have a coach that manages his bench by "feel," that lost 17 games in a row last year, and a 1-8 road record in this year's playoffs, including getting taken to the limit by a sub-.500 team (Atlanta) and a team that's one player ...

Why The Celtics Will Win
celticsblog.com 6/2/2008 — Everyone seems to be picking the Lakers to win this series, including the (no longer Boston) Sports Guy. I can see the reasoning. It actually makes sense from a certain point of view. In a world of "what have you done for me lately," the Lakers are the fashionable pick. I don't blame anyone for picking the Lakers, I just think they're wrong. Here's why:
