When Lloyd retires, is Miles next? - Jim Carty Links8
Questions about Lloyd Carr's potential retirement will probably come up on a weekly basis during this Michigan football season. That's Carr's fault, of course, tweaks to his contract after last season make it appear as if he at least wants the option to leave after the 2007 season, and the veteran University of Michigan football coach won't answer any questions about his future directly. If ... [link]

Les Miles Isn't a Candidate for Anything
Published 7/6/2007 by Brian at mgoblog
The argument that Michigan is a weird place, relatively speaking, that does things differently than most athletic departments is one that you can get a lot of traction with since it has the benefit of being true. There's no other major program in the country that would have a serious undercurrent of panic in its fanbase at the prospect of a man who went 12-34 in the MAC ascending to the head job. In other places, guys who win one of four games at non-BCS schools and are immediately followed by another guy who is so successful he springboards to a better job within three years are put in charge of special teams and forgotten about. But Michigan treasures loyalty, continuity, and propriety above all. So when Jim Carty says this...Overall, Michigan is a unique situation. Don't underestimate how much that will matter. ...

Brian Kelly will be next Michigan Football Coach
Published 9/28/2007 by Dave at Gorilla Crouch
... There have been a couple articles on who should be the next coach whenever Carr decides to call it a career. Now seems like a good time to state the case for the guy who I think would have the highest potential. Two ...

Carr era likely over
Published 11/18/2007 by Dave at Gorilla Crouch
... Two people who have written on the likely successor are Jim Carty from the Ann Arbor News and Brian over at MGoBlog. The donnybrook got started when Carty wrote back in July that there are many reasons to think Les Miles would have a great shot at becoming the next coach. ...

The Incredibly contradictory Jim Carty
Published 11/19/2007 by Jake at Motown Sports Revival
... The MSM taking shots at blogs is everywhere these days. I experienced a similar bout of anti-blogger mentality from the MSM that became even more ridiculous this past weekend. It’s not nearly the size and scope of MGoBlog and the New York Times but it features the same sort of questionable journalistic integrity, nonetheless. Jim Carty covers the Michigan football program as a columnist for the Ann Arbor News and as a contributor to Mlive.com. Last July, he wrote an article about Les Miles possibly being Michigan’s next football coach. In that same article, he chose to cite my ...

3rd Annual Bowl Extravaganza
Published 12/12/2007 by Jake at Motown Sports Revival
... Bobby Petrino leaving the Atlanta Falcons to return to the college ranks shocks only one person in the universe. Michigan, of course, couldn't consider Petrino for its vacant head coaching position because it would disrupt its theme of ignoring all of the best candidates. Petrino will definitely impact the Arkansas program but my guess is he'll soon find out what Steve Spurrier is well aware of after three seasons at South Carolina. Reaching elite status with a middle-of-the-pack school in the SEC is borderline impossible. As for the Cotton Bowl, it should be a good game. ...

Martin's Atonement
Published 12/17/2007 by Jake at Motown Sports Revival
... being somewhat overlooked by the media, speculators and, by most accounts, Bill Martin over the last few weeks. Jim Carty—in a ridiculous post in which he attempted to use this blog as an example of incompetence—wrote over the summer that Rodriguez wasn’t even worth talking about from a fan-perspective. I’ve always liked Rodriguez as have a number of Michigan fans who have seen his results at West Virginia. I had him #2 on my list of coaches who I felt would be best for Michigan. Here is Carty’s quote—and subsequent reaction to my thoughts on Rodriguez—in all its glory: ...
