Seth Rorabaugh from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had a beautiful draft chart on Friday that looked at the top 805 NHLers from the end of the season and where they were picked in the draft. From all the mountains of weekend copy, it was by far the most interesting thing I read on the entry draft. At the very least, it gives you an idea of the value of the different rounds in the annual pick 'ems [link]

... I don't know anything about the other picks, but from what I read all of them seem reasonable except the last pick, which would seem to be the least likely to produce a player anyways (though maybe not) ...

... where he looked at all the current NHLers and showed per team what round the guys one their roster were drafted. James Mirtle turned those numbers into a cool graph which shows that 48% of all current NHL players were taken in the 1st or 2nd round.

Now, whether Vanek stays a 35 goal scorer or not, I still think that was a bad offer sheet. $10 million signing of a guy who really only had one good season playing behind Daniel Briere and Chris Drury is a little ridiculous, and four first round picks would have absolutely crippled this franchise for years to come, especially when one realizes just how important 1st round picks are. ...
