KidUterus 0What a complete dick. -
TheHype I dunno, SML's piece wasn't totally trashing the sites -- a bit harsh... and not in the "spirit" of blog-brotherhood a la rooting for each other... yes -- but I think making the point of getting Will et Co. to reach blogs with different takes that's good in quality is good Deadspin, since they're THE blog that spreads the wealth.
(Though, of course, I might see it like KidUterus if my site gets trampled on... but I think it's more a criticism of the 'structure' of Deadspin's linking than just killing blog peers...)
-
KidUterus He deleted some of the harsh stuff that was directed at specific blogs, so it might seem a bit less offensive than the original. -
Richie Rich Getting Deadspun sends equivalent of thousands of visitors to your site which might not have been shown up otherwise ...If you've got ads on your site, it's a wonderful thing.
SML makes some good points, but it comes across like sour grapes.

Doberman On The Diamond How about this: Write better stuff.

cajun56 I read the original post, he looked like a baby. I think that he eventually got his deadspin link though.
And yes, write better stuff and readers will show up

Free Beer? For Us?:
Published 6/27/2007 by Leitch at Deadspin
... This comprehensive -- and impressive -- breakdown of Deadspin links offers us the unique opportunity to watch someone statistically analyze of the work we do when we're still trying to wake up in the morning. (Your job should provide such good fortune.) We pretty much agree with everything here, though we're not sure why offering up links for free beer is supposed to be a bad thing. (So it's known, that's never happened. YET!) [Stop Mike Lupica] ...
We Suck
Published 6/27/2007 by Jai Eugene at Loser with Socks
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. The Stop Mike Lupica (aka sml) blog [ Link ] decided to take a shot a Deadspin and it s editor s blog linking policy. What was really interesting is that the while firing for effect , SML felt like he had to drag other blogs (including us) into his burning shitpile: Why does Deadspin link the irrelevant, tangently-related-to-sports, mostly entertainment blogs? Why not show some love towards the more thought-provoking blogs? NewspaperHack? Is that you? Great another e-stalker on the prowl. I love all of these pompous fuckers that run around critiquing everyone else. Well shitfire, it just dawned on me that we certainly critique the hell out of SEC Football so I guess what goes around comes around. Did SML ever consider that Deadspin knows what it s readers like? SML claims not to care if he is ever linked, so why did he write and complain? Chec ...

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Alcohol Payola Scandal Edition
Published 6/29/2007 by BDoc at The Sports Oasis
... scandal with Will Leitch at Deadspin. Apparently, the fine blogger(s) at Stop Mike Lupica believe there's some backroom, or barroom as the case may be, shadiness going on, and that's the reason this wonderful, creative, intelligent blog has been linked so much by Deadspin . Now, I can't hate on SML too much because he actually called my links "legit posts", though maybe I should be upset because of that (long live mediocrity!). I also had a nice spike in traffic that day. And to tell you the truth, SML was on to something. Whenever I'm looking to get something linked on Deadspin a huge party breaks out, and the next thing you know me and Mr. Leitch, or "Big Willy" as the strippers at the Spearmint Rhino in Vegas call him(contrary to popular belief there is sex in the Champagne Room if you're rolling with a Deadspin highroller), are surrounded by cash, hot chicks and lots of alcohol. Trust me, bribing "B ...

The Best Blog Posts of 2007
Published 12/30/2007 by Rupert Entwistle at The Ghosts of Wayne Fontes
It's the end of another year, which means the hangovers get worse, the nose hairs grow longer, and the balls dangle lower. Fun times. Anyway, before we get tied up in 2008, we thought we'd take some time to salute the best blog posts of 2007 from around the blogosphere. I'll obviously start by apologizing, because I'm sure I'm missing a lot of great work from a lot of our friends, but these are some of the ones where I vividly remember laughing... hard. So, cheers to everyone on the list and thanks for doing this thing we do so well. Happy New Years folks and thanks for being a part of this weird, undeniably lame world we love so ...
Bloggolalia: Will Leitch's Book Tour
Published 1/12/2008 by MCBias at Moderately Cerebral Bias
After years of missing out on every single sports blogger gathering available (because I didn't live in New York, DC, LA, or Chicago), I am pleased to report that I am close to one of Will Leitch's Book Tour locations. Even better, Mr. Leitch has invited us readers to participate, although I'm sure what he had in mind was buying him drinks. But that's so shortsighted! There's so many more ways for us readers to participate. It's a chance to confirm people's worst fears about Internet bloggers! See, usually when these gatherings occur, bloggers feel pressure to act normal, to convince each other that they aren't serial killers and ...

Ever notice that Will Leitch of Deadspin.com seems to get love from the same blogs over and over again? I have, and I decided to do some number-crunching to back a theory of mine: The following blogs have given more than 5 words to Will Leitch's new book "God Save The Fan": Dan Shanoff Rays Index Cobra Brigade Sports Media Journal Kissing Suzy Kolber Ladies ... Other blogs/sites have discussed Leitch's book as well - Amazon.com, Esquire (shameless self-promotion though that is), et al - but they are major web sites, not just "regular" sports ...
Bloggolalia: Top Blog Entries of 2007
Published 2/7/2008 by MCBias at Moderately Cerebral Bias
Here are some of my favorite entries of 2007. I originally sent this off to a blog, but they were unable to follow through with the series. So here it is, better late than never, to pay tribute to the best! It's a top 5 more than a top 10, because I'm lazy. A favorite category is when bloggers go out there and grab a story, doing actual reporting. D-Wil, formerly of thestartingfive.net and now of dwil.wordpress.com, worked very hard on the Michael Vick story, doing actual reporting, and had information and perspective one couldn't find ...
