Vikings Notes: Media Talk, Kitna’s Annual Prediction
Published 5/9/2008 by Anthony Hall at Vikings War Cry
*Thanks to everyone who has suggested some article ideas…but, of course, the more ideas we get, the better! If there’s something you want us to write about during this slow period for the NFL, drop us a comment. *Check back this weekend for an update on the death of Otis Grigsby’s uncle…I’ve been in contact with his family, and am currently preparing an article about the incident that will be posted by Saturday morning, at the very latest. *TMZ tracked down some pretty funny pictures of Randy Moss “getting acquainted” with Miss Kentucky USA at a Kentucky Derby party. For me, ...

... Patrick Reusse's most recent column carried a sky-is-falling "Who'll gather news when internet is all that there is?" headline and the Minneapolis Star Tribune's resident blog-hating curmudgeon spent most of the piece talking about how great it was working at newspapers in the good old days, before finishing with what is now a familiar refrain: ...

The Roundup: Don’t Forget Mother’s Day

... - Pat Reusse wrote yet another god awful article, this one bemoaning the decline in popularity of printed newspaper when compared to the internet. I'm not going to break it down, because it's pretty worthless, but it reads more like an autobiographical letter to the editor than an actual column in an actual newspaper. His point is that newspapers have better access to the local sports teams than internet sites do, which of course he doesn't get around to making until the last few paragraphs of his rambling column. And honestly, as long as sites like the star tribune, pioneer ...

Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

Happy fishing opener! Yes, today is a great day, when tens of thousands of Minnesotans arise at ridiculous times, drive to the lake access before the sun comes up, and then — and only then — discover that the crank on the boat trailer isn’t working and that there’s a hole at about mid-shin in those waders. But half-destroyed trailers and soggy shoes be darned: it’s practically the official beginning of summer today. Sure, the weather forecast calls for mid-fifties and a day’s worth of rain, but you can’t tell me that most of the fishermen out there aren’t just glad to get the boat out ...

The Adventures of Grandpa Sports and The Bird Whisperer - Episode 99

In today's episode, The Bird Whisperer tells us: DON'T PRINT THAT Twins catcher Joe Mauer probably could hit 30 home runs a season with a minor swing adjustment, but that also could result in 100 strikeouts a season. Remember Patrick Reusse's column last week, Who'll gather news when Internet is all that there is? The last paragrapgh of the column read, "A doesn't-cost-a-nickel, stand-alone Internet site is not going to have the quality of resources the Star Tribune has mustered for a rich sports section that lands on a doorstep." The last time we checked the Pioneer Press ...

Happy Trails, Kevin Seifert
Published 5/15/2008 by Anthony Hall at Vikings War Cry
*Sad news, Vikings rubes: Kevin Seifert is leaving the Star Tribune. The longtime beat writer has accepted a job with ESPN.com, where he’ll blog about the NFC North. I’m betting Patrick Reusse, our favorite old codger, isn’t going to take this news too well — last week, he wrote a column moaning and groaning about the rise of internet media and the decline of print media. Mere days after that column appeared in the Strib, the paper’s most prominent beat writer announces he’s leaving for — uh huh — a website. Anyways, happy trails to Seifert…he’s always been ...
