Randy Levine and the Yankees--humiliated by the Red Sox again
Published 5/23/2008 by susan mullen (noreply@blogger.com) at XM MLB Chat
Randy Levine and the Yankees should not be surprised that the Red Sox have once again shown them to be inattentive patsies, easily humiliated at the biggest moments. Levine has been hard at work for a year on the upcoming All Star game and HAD NO IDEA a Red Sox star hitter had been chosen for a big promotion linking Babe Ruth and the Home Run Derby, per the NY Times. The Yankees have inattentive and/or insufficient supervision at their new stadium to the point where memorabilia from the Red Sox was embedded in the concrete of the stadium, with rumors now even more stuff is buried. The Yankees and the YES ...

Unwelcome Guest

... I am pretty sure (actually, I KNOW) that Sox fans wouldn't like A-Rod being the focus of an All-Star game gimmick at Fenway Park, but in the grand scheme of things is it that big a deal to have David Ortiz take a single swing for a fan at the House that Ruth Built? Bigger question, if the article linked is to be believed, is why did MLB do such a poor job informing the Yankees about their promotional plans? Having David Ortiz "call a shot" for a fan at the Home Run Derby in the Bronx just doesn't seem like a big deal, and certainly not an event worth an entire organization ...

Hate to do this, but we may have to ban Marissa Miller after this photo on account of too-hot. If it doesn’t make sense, well … wait, what just happened? … they’re calling this the most expensive home in the world … because there was no Office last night - every ‘that’s what she said‘ in the show’s history … everybody tap their feet night! … boo the Mets … Home runs in baseball are way, way down from 2006, which seems like a good thing! (Washington Post) Why does Charles Barkley get away with stuff no other announcer could dream of? ...

Taking them one at a time, Yanks win two in a row

... , at least on HR calls. With the calls we've seen lately, we would whole-heartedly support such a move. Jack Curry describes how David Ortiz's participation in the all-star game's "Call Your Shot" promotion is ruffling some of Yankee management's feathers.

Yankees Try To Stop Ortiz From Participating in All-Star Event
Published 5/23/2008 by Fenway West (noreply@blogger.com) at Fenway West
The Hankees have their panties in a wad over Big Papi being chosen to participate in the "Call Your Shot" promotion during the Home Run Derby Contest at Yankee Stadium. Apparently it is not ok with the Evil Empire to have Ortiz do something that they believe will somehow taint Babe Ruth's "called shot" in 1932. It is one thing to say they would like a A-Rod or another Yankee to be selected but they are actively trying to stop the event from happening! The insecurity level in the Bronx continues to rise. ...

Not in Our House!

We've often disagreed with the money making, publicity seeking schemes by Major League Baseball (i.e. putting Spiderman ads on the bases), and now we're really steaming. For this year's All-Star game, which you recall is in Yankee Stadium, they are planning a promotion where a fan "calls a shot", reminiscent of the Babe Ruth's called shot in the 1932 World Series. Of course they are going to have a player involved in this year's promotion...David Ortiz! WTF!!!!!! A Red Sox? ...

... and Arthur Rhodes-fest), which I'm sure had everything to do with "team unity" and nothing to do with the fact that Seattle is baseball's worst team... I'm talking about the David Ortiz contest. I saw a banner ad for some "Call Your Shot" contest the other day, and I entered it. The ads were all over the place, on all the MLB team sites. Basically, at the Home Run Derby, one lucky winner picks a spot and if Papi hits a dong there, the person wins a vehicle. But then the Yankees said , Whoa, we can't have a rival player, you know, doin' stuff in our stadium. First of all, ...

There probably weren't many heavy metal aficionados among the 50,000 or so at Yankee Stadium who took note of Ian Kennedy's warmup tune before the first inning. But Korn's "Here to Stay" held plenty of meaning for the young pitcher.
