Who Won't Be Deadspin's New Editor
Published 6/9/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Hugging Harold Reynolds) at Hugging Harold Reynolds
Buzz around the blogs this past week has focused on who will follow Will Leitch as Deadspin's new editor. Fanhouse's Michael David Smith broke it down pretty well today, putting odds on some of the favored candidates. Frankly, no one is more deserving of the post than HHR's the chief. Ignoring, of course, his lack of commitment and inconsistency. Let's a take a look at some other folks around the Interwebs who, while deserving, will never get a look. Doug Sheckler, Epic Carnival, on205th Magazine Epic ...

Who's Next at Deadspin?
Published 6/10/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Craig Calcaterra) at ShysterBall
FanHouse's Michael David Smith lays odds on who might succeed Will Leitch at Deadspin. Many of the usual suspects are mentioned (Daulerio, KSK guys, MJD), some long shots (Brooks, Nik Richie, Sarah Schorno), and a handful of guys who would probably cause the Deadspin readership to revolt (Shanoff, Simmons). ...

... Manning is still playing, and therefore may drop in production and hurt his rankings. But, up to this point in his career, he has clearly been the most productive QB of the Modern Era, at least in the regular season.
Wolfpack's article is excellent, and coupled with mgrex30's article yesterday comparing Indy to the "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams, that's two excellent stats-driven articles in a row.

... blogs, Big Daddy Drew (you may have seen his work on Kissing Suzy Kolber, or in his "Balls Deep" weekly feature on Deadsipin) decided to "out" himself, declaring to the world: "Hi, my real name is Drew Magary."
The next step, obviously, was Drew giving us his best Chris Berman impression (warning: language):
I wonder if this will hurt or help his candidacy for Deadspin editor. His odds were already 15-1 before this leaked.
As Drew points out: if you don't "get" this, ...

... The initial question was obvious: who will replace him? Michael David Smith at AOL Fanhouse even put out odds, with A.J. Daulerio, Deadspin Senior Writer, as the 2:1 favorite (if I had my pick, it would be MJD of Yahoo! Sports, one of the best writers the sports blogs have; current odds: 4:1). But perhaps the more important question is one raised at The Sports Point: ...

For those of you who still don’t think that Jamie and I are, in fact, two separate humans (looking in MDS’ direction), allow me to point out one major difference: I watched 12 hours of sports yesterday, Jamie watched zero. This, of course, stems from another contrast: Jamie is married with a baby on the way, I’m single with cirrhosis on the way. So, this helps explain why, during U.S. Open commercial breaks, I was watching a 17-2 college baseball game. And what’s the one thing you can hope for in a 15-run contest? How would it change if these journalists were to take the position?
