 Who Should Bat Third? Links1
By Rob McQuown...Widely regarded as the Nationals best hitter, Ryan Zimmerman batted third every game for the Nationals in 2007. Likewise, all of Albert Pujols' games started came in the coveted 3-spot in the Cardinals lineup. Yet, do these batting order decisions make sense statistically? [link]

What is the rationale behind hitting the pitcher #8? Only the Cards seem to be regularily doing so. I have toyed with the idea that this presents a superior hitter in the #9 slot and subsequently leads to more instances with a runner on for the ELITE hitters. Is that so?
