Who will start Tuesday?
Who will start Tuesday?
July 26, 2009 8:41 p.m. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Brewers are going to trade for a pitcher to start Tuesday against Washington. Here's what I'm thinking. Tim Dillard, a starting pitcher, was called up from Class AAA Nashville and seemed the logical choice to start ...

Brewers Targeting Washburn?
Milwaukee Brewers Blog - Bernie's CrewTom Haudricourt wrote this evening: I checked around and learned that Seattle lefty Jarrod Washburn's next scheduled turn is Tuesday. But, after the Mariners were wiped out this weekend by Cleveland and also put Erik Bedard on the DL, what's the point of letting Washburn make another start? Why not trade him beforehand and get something for him? I know for a fact that the Brewers have been discussing Washburn, even though he is a free agent after the season. Because Washburn is a Wisconsin native, maybe the Brewers think they could convince him to ...

The Washburn To Milwaukee Stuff
U.S.S. Mariner — ... and his Milwaukee counterpart Tom Haudricourt are speculating that the M’s and Brewers could make a deal for Jarrod Washburn as early as tomorrow. His next scheduled start is on Tuesday, and the Brewers don’t currently have a starting pitcher for that day – add in the fact that Brewers GM Doug Melvin has publicly talked about his desire to add an arm despite his unwillingness to give up his top two young players (SS Alcides Escobar and 3B Mat Gamel), which would take him out of the running for Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee, along with Washburn being from ...

Do the Mariners and Brewers have something cookin'?
Circling The Bases — ... and not someone else, who would have to watch his painful regression to his mediocre mean. Baker talks about maybe unloading Washburn to Milwaukee for shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar. As he notes, it would take more than Washburn to do it, but if they could pull that off, it would go a long way to balancing their karma out from the Adam Jones-Erik Bedard deal. Oh, and it would help the team a lot too. And lest you think that this is mere wishcasting on the part of Mr. Baker, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is thinking the same thing . Almost exactly ...

Monday's Frosty Mug
Brew Crew Ball — ... I'm going to break into the bullet points here for a quick aside. Doug Melvin is normally very tight-lipped about moves he might be making, arguing that press coverage and speculation make it more difficult to get a deal done. Why, then, would the Brewers wait so long to name a starter for tomorrow? Assuming no deal is done, Tim Dillard will almost certainly get the start (although Tom H. says it could be Villanueva), so why not name a starter? If the Brewers somehow manage to make a deal today, Dillard could be scratched in favor of Washburn and no one would be harmed. ...

Round 'em Up: Monday 7.27.09
Milwaukee Brewers Blog - Bernie's Crew — ... notes that Milwaukee and Seattle have furiously been discussing a trade surrounding Jarrod Washburn.  Baker says the Brewers and Mariners have been discussing Washburn for a while, but it took a terrible week from the M's to thrust the team into sell-mode.  The return is unclear at this point, but one can easily assume that J.J. Hardy or Alcides Escobar would be heading to Seattle -- with Escobar having very little chance of being included.  Tom Haudricourt agrees that this Washburn rumor could be growing legs. ...

Some Numbers to Think About
