thegreenmenace +1For me the MVP is simple, Kobe Bryant. Its liek this, would the Suns make playoffs without Nash? probably. Would the Mavs make the playoffs with Dirk, maybe. Would the Lakers be worth watching at all if it weren't for Kobe? Hell no! I mean think about it, his sidekick on the team is Smush Parker! Smush! Kobe for MVP, because it doesnt matter if he is arrogant, fake, a rapist or whatever. Its not a sportmanship or model citizenship award, its the MVP trophy and Kobe deserves one before he is done.

In some cases I got the right result but was off slightly on timing (I thought the C s would trade for KG in midseason instead of this offseason). In other cases, I was just dead wrong (trading Pierce, making the playoffs last year, etc.). As a glutton for punishment, I m back with more predictions that probably have about a 5 to 10 percent chance of happening. 1. Kevin Garnett will win the MVP. First of all, I ...

... According to the NBA general managers, LeBron James will win his first Maurice Podoloff Trophy this season. (Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE/Getty Images) Talking about who is going to win the league's most valuable player before February's All-Star break is normally viewed as silly. Saying who the leading MVP candidates are before the first day of the new year is usually met with outrage. And trying to create MVP buzz before the regular season even begins? I think Steve in Portland says it best: "Can you let the players play a game before you start trying to predict who is going to win an award that doesn't come out until almost summer? It makes you look stupid." Despite the words of encouragement from my buddy Steve, I still put together my preseason player rankings, Race to the MVP . The Sixers are my favorite team, but I love the NBA for its players. Therefore, in my humble opinion, there is never a wrong time to start debat ...

... didn't play much this summer and turned in a stellar opening night performance against the Lakers with 25 points, 12 boards, three assists and three blocks. Yet, the potential for gaudy stat lines wasn't the reason for my picking Yao as MVP. I think Yao and the Rockets will thrive in new coach Rick Adelman's Princeton-style offense. He is, as TNT's Doug Collins said late in the game, the Rockets' best free throw shooter. On offense, he moves well for a man his size and has astounding footwork. That, and you can't move the big lug off the box. His biggest weakness is on defense, where he's slow to recover and he's caught playing defense with his hands, which leads to foul trouble. The Rockets showed on Tuesday against L.A. that when they're on, they'll be tough to stop. Tracy McGrady, obviously, will be a big part of Houston's success this season, but I see Yao as the cornerstone of a team that I think will win the ultra-competitive Southwest Division. And who knows? Maybe ...

My point being is, Garnett is always in the discussion for both distinctions, so he’s already in the church, now all he needs is the right pew. Mentioning Garnett in this year’s MVP debate is a no-brainer. Mo Brooks already has Garnett sitting comfortable a top his Race to the MVP column and when you add in the fact that he is the undisputed best player on the ...

Statistically, he's venturing into Shaq-circa-2000 territory: 22.2 points, 14.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while shooting 57.5% from the field (and, just to be fair, terribly from the line). His Orlando Magic are 10-3, partially due to the addition of Rashard Lewis but mostly because of Howard's strong play. Unless he gets injured this season (knock on wood), we're not going to have to see how the Magic play without him. However, and Maurice Brooks of NBA.com's Race to the MVP can back me up on this, Dwight is in it to win it.
