I’ll say it again: I’m not worried about what the other Eastern Conference contenders are doing. The Celtics signing of Rasheed Wallace has the potential to be as big an impact move as the Cavs trade for Shaq or the Magic’s deal for Carter.
Note: I said potential. It also has the potential to be a disaster if ‘Sheed’s game continues to decline. But the fact remains: Nothing the Cavs or Magic has done in this off-season intimidates me or tips the balance of power in the East dramatically.

Since the news broke, lots of people asked me for some quick analysis of the trade. I could write a whole big thing about it, but John Hollinger (Insider) did the work. The gist of his argument: Portland's approach makes sense even if the dollars seem excessive at first glance. Yes, they're overpaying Hedo Turkoglu, and given his age it's possible they'll end up eating the last two years of the contract. But the way cap space works is that a team might get only one shot at using it, and must take advantage by making the best, strongest move it can for the best fit available. Former Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, pending Wednesday’s announcement of the 2009-10 salary cap. The contract should approximate the $50 million he wanted.
Don’t think that vaults Portland to the top. But, it should alleviate some of Roy’s ballhandling and scoring. Hollinger believes they overpaid, but it was a decent use of cap space.
