 Why we're better Links5
Through 20 games last year, with a healthy Gilbert Arenas and Etan Thomas, this team was 9-11.  With yesterday's win over the Nets, this team moved to 10-10 over the same 20-game stretch, even though Gilbert and Etan have been injured, leaving the team without enough bodies to practice on occassion.   What gives?  The Wizards were once known for their inconsistency, but they've ... Tuesday’s Basically Top Five Blog Links
Published 12/11/2007 by Jamie Mottram at Mr. Irrelevant
Before getting into the national stuff, let’s take care of some personal business. First, that new Yahoo! blogger I hinted at yesterday is Rod Benson, “The D-League’s Gilbert Arenas.” Second, on the DC tip, Capitol Punishment is underwhelmed by the Nats’ Lo Duca signing, the Wiz are good without Gil and the Skins have a 17% chance at the wild card. Free Mike Vick. Sure, in 18-23 months, at which time he won’t be in the NFL, especially if he “eats a lot of fried ...

Ballin’: Vince Carter Lustily Booed, Nets Lose Again

... Minnesota 88, Washington 102 - The Wiz sure are playing well without Gil Arenas. Jamison, Caron and Brenda all had double doubles, and Roger Mason (UVa represent!) had 17 points in 23 minutes as Washington improved to 11-10. Also, ...

Heat : Wizards :: Mike Miller's Monkey : Great Dane

Heat : Wizards :: Mike Miller's Monkey : Great Dane Thursday, December 13, 2007 The post's title pays homage to a bizarre must-read on True Hoop --and the SAT verbal analogies section --but just as Sonny rode Miller's dog around the neighborhood, the Wiz cannot get the Heat off their backs. Washington's losing streak is no secret around D.C.; what's less well-known are the pitiful details. Counting their 2005 playoff sweep, the Heat are 19-1 against Washington in the teams' last 20 games; while the Wiz flipped the script during the two-year MJ era, going 5-3 against South Beach, the Heat also were 11-0 in the three ...

Brendan Haywood is the second-best center in the East
Published 1/11/2008 by Pradamaster <info@bulletsforever.com> at Bullets Forever
When I talked about the reasons for us treading water in the standings without Gilbert Arenas, I gave Caron Butler the majority of the credit.  Looking back, I'm starting to realize that was poor analysis, because as we've continued to stay afloat without our superstar, I've come to realize that Brendan Haywood is playing as big of a role, if not bigger, in our season. Last year, we got incredibly inconsistent play from the center position.  Haywood feuded with Eddie Jordan, sulked his way into a part-time role, and gave way far too often to Etan Thomas, who plummeted our defense to a new low. Though Haywood was ...

The Antonio Daniels Effect

It's easy to forget that Daniels was the fourth pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, or that he was a key member of the San Antonio Spurs' 98-99 championship team. Hopefully, Daniels' contributions as a reliable veteran aren't lost when Arenas returns, and when the Wizards reach the playoffs.

Lack of support for Smith drops Wolves to 3-16

Craig Smith set a career high with 36 points on Tuesday night, but the Wizards were too much for the Wolves. They finished with a 57-35 rebounding edge and were carried offensively by Caron Butler, Antwan Jamison, and Roger Mason Jr. The loss drops the Wolves, losers in 5 of their last 7 games, to 3-16 on the season.
