LPGA Milks Michelle Wie, Kills Santa
Published 7/20/2008 by insomniac (noreply@blogger.com) at Insomniac's Lounge
... Wie shot a 65 at the State Farm Classic Friday and for whatever reason- excitement over being tied for the lead, requests for various interviews, or just unaccustomed to actually making it through two days of a tournament- she walked outside of the scorer's tent without signing her scorecard. Fortunately, a volunteer noticed the oversight and called Wie back to the tent where she then signed her card, which was unmodified and correct. Problem solved, right? Well...not exactly. ...

Like Most People, Michelle Wie Has No Idea Who Jay Williamson Is
By now, we all know Michelle Wie : she's 18 years old, just so happens to be very good at golf, but has made some questionable career decisions. I'd like to think that's on her parents ( Dottie Pepper agrees ), and I wonder if she would be perfectly happy as an anonymous teenager enjoying college. Whatever, if the golf thing doesn't work out, Wie might want to think about going into comedy. ...
Wie, Fresh Off LPGA DQ, Decides to Play PGA Tour; Everybody Understandably Baffled
Golfweek's Rex Hoggard writes what most people are thinking : Michelle Wie is insane to accept a sponsor's exemption at next week's Reno-Tahoe Open, a PGA Tour event. Wie is fresh off rounds of 67 and 65, which were promptly followed by a "DQ" after she forgot the bit about signing your scorecard immediately after finishing putting out on 18 . And now, with the season winding down and her ...
Danica Patrick and Michelle Wie
are good for a combined $19 million a year , according to Forbes. Maria Sharapova gets $26  million by herself. Absolutely amazing what Bratrick and Wie have got going. Can’t believe Nike and Sony think they are getting a good ROI from Wie. As for Danica, she gets more publicity for confronting other drivers than she does in finding her way to the front of the pack. Oh, what a good ...
Team Wie reverts to old desperate ways with Reno-Tahoe Open PGA Tour grab
A lot’s already been written about Michelle Wie accepting a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Reno-Tahoe Open , yet the larger truth’s gone unnoticed. This move reeks of sudden desperation from Team Wie, desperation they’d smartly largely avoided for the last year as Wie tried to rebuild a game that had been propped up by smoke and mirrors hype from the very ...
Wie Talks About Playing on the PGA Tour
As you well know, Michelle Wie is going to play in her eighth PGA Tour event next week at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Wie has played in seven LPGA events this year, making the cut in just four of them, and if that doesn't scream "time to play against men" I don't know what does. What did Wie have to say about her "opportunity?" “It's not every day that a woman is given the opportunity to play on ...
Michelle Wie is demanding your attention. NOW!
You can't make this Michelle Wie stuff up. Seriously, you can't. I tried. I made up this story about how she broke down crying on the tenth green of the State Farm Classic last weekend, then decided to give up golf once and for all. My editor said, "Nice try, champ, but Wie got herself kicked out of the tournament for failing to sign the score card, and now she's taking another run at a ...
Wie Shoots 67-65, Good for 2nd Place, Forgets to Sign Scorecard, Promptly DQ'd
I'm pretty sure we can't blame Bo Wie for this, but that's surely no consolation to his daughter, Michelle. After almost two years of uninspired golf, Wie, now a 19-year-old Stanford student trying to earn her LPGA Tour card, put together two of her best rounds in recent memory. Heading into the weekend, she was in second place at the State Farm Classic. That lasted about two minutes . For ...
Michelle Wie gets DQ’d… and for once she was actually doing well
It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that Michelle Wie exploded onto the golf scene and according to the “experts” she was supposed to be the fully asian, female version of Tiger Woods. She’s still workin’ on that. Despite the fact that she is yet to actually win an event at the professional level, she actually looked pretty this weekend at the State Farm ...
Michelle Wie earns her State Farm DQ with dumb mistake, but LPGA shows inept heartless bureaucracy too
Michelle Wie made one of those dumb mistakes that a golfer in contention just cannot make. One of those blunders that fits right in with the illegal drops and dubious withdrawals that have marked her winless career. Wie forgot to sign her scorecard before leaving the scoring area after the second round of the State Farm Classic Friday. So she earned her latest disqualification. ...
Michelle Wie in contention, then disqualified.
From Associated Press: Michelle Wie finished the third round of the State Farm Classic alone in second on Saturday—then was disqualified for failing to immediately sign her scorecard a day earlier. Wie DQ'd from State Farm Classic
So much for the comeback: Wie failed to sign her scorecard after Friday’s second round. She showed up Saturday and shot 5-under 67 to finish alone in second at 17 under, one stroke back of Yani Tseng. That’s when Wie learned of the LPGA’s ruling.
