After his little "Is it race?" gaffe, and the subsequent round of apology , Willie Randolph would be correct in thinking himself all but fired from his job as manager of the Mets. Even if he had delivered an Obama-esque inspirational speech to the media (instead of, say, comparing himself to Isiah Thomas ), Randolph had to feel close to the precipice.
