Willis sent to Class A Lakeland Links3
The Tigers announced this afternoon that they have sent struggling left-hander Dontrelle Willis to their Class-A farm club in Lakeland, Fla., to try to regain his form. The move came in the wake of Willis’s exceptionally wild outing Monday night. He walked five, repeatedly missed the strike zone badly, gave up eight runs in 1 1/3 innings and lost, 8-2, to Cleveland. The outing worsened ... [link]

Willis to Lakeland
Published 6/10/2008 by Kurt at Mack Avenue Tigers
The Tigers optioned Dontrelle Willis to Single-A Lakeland today, the Free Press is reporting (hat-tip Bilfer for IM-ing me the news) Something was seriously wrong that the organization was going to have to deal with in order to get anything resembling its investment out of him. The name of Rick Ankiel was tossed around, and Steve Blass. I didn’t see how much Wllis struggled to throw a strike with my own eyes, so I can’t really opine on that matter. Hopefully it isn’t that bad. But it really doesn’t sound good. As Jim ...

Willis optioned to Lakeland
Published 6/10/2008 by Lee Panas (noreply@blogger.com) at Tiger Tales: A Detroit Tigers Blog
The Tigers announced today that they have optioned Dontrelle Willis to Lakeland so that he can work out his control issues in minor league games. As a five year veteran, Willis had to agree to the minor league assignment and he did so willingly. It became apparent last night, when he walked five and gave up eight runs in an inning and a third, that Willis does not have the control to pitch at the Major League level at this time. Jim Leyland says that the most likely candidate to replace him in the rotation is Eddie Bonine, a 27 year old right-handed pitcher with an interesting ...

Dontrelle Willis of the Tigers was optioned down to A-Lakeland and for me it wasn't soon enough. Willis has been horrible this entire season, albeit it being short season for him. He gave up 8 hits and 5ER's while walking 3 and ...
The sad demise of Dontrelle Willis
It's so hard to not like Dontrelle Willis. He has that wonderful old-fashion motion, an upbeat personality and, hey, he grew up about 10 minutes from us! But while this Bay Area native has the support of the casual fan, the same can't be said for Detroit faithful. Allowing eight runs in an inning and a third in Monday's loss to Cleveland earned the lefty boos from Tigers fans. He walked five ...

Willis was signed to a three-year, $29 million deal by the Tigers after the team acquired him in the mammoth trade with the Florida Marlins this past offseason. White Sox come to town
By now, I'm assuming everyone saw the Dontrelle Willis option to Class A Lakeland. The reason for him going down to A-ball rather than Erie or Toledo, according to Dave Dombrowski, was that they felt it would be a lower-pressure situation down there, with less attention on him than if he were in the other places. Dombrowski also said he felt like at least part of it was mechanical, which ...

“He Couldn’t Pitch For St. Ed’s Right Now”
Indians 8, Tigers 2 (box) Possibly the line of the night, courtesy of radio play-by-play man Tom Hamilton, Dontrelle Willis’ lack of control allowed last night’s game to be over by the end of the first inning. Random Notes
Josh Barfield of the Indians was called up and will be the regular starting 2nd baseman. AL-Only league owners should grab this guy because he will give you some decent stats and with AL-only leagues players are hard to come by that are full time players and who give positive returns. Credit to Willis: He talked
I'll probably go through more than a handful of times over the course of a season and point out when someone wasn't available for comment, or declined to comment, or didn't make himself available. In fact, ...
Closing Time: Stop the train, I want to get off
It was downright uncomfortable watching Dontrelle Willis pitch today. It was painfully obvious from the outset that he was not going to be able to throw strikes, but he had no choice but to make an attempt. It got ugly quickly and did not improve before he had allowed eight earned runs in 1.1 innings versus the Tigers. He threw just 27 of 64 pitches for strikes, issuing five walks, and the ...

As you watched Dontrelle Willis struggle to find the 313 area code on Monday night, how could you not be thinking of Rick Ankiel ? And Dontrelle was left wishing for a rain-out.
Dontrelle Willis has no idea where the baseball going. That much is clear. This has been the case all season, in injury and in health. Oh, he has a very, VERY general idea: he knows the ball’s not going backwards, and he has a vague sense of which base it ought to be going to, so he’s throwing towards homeplate and not, say, first base. Beyond that, who can say? Not Dontrelle.  ...
