Rosenthal's Latest: Kemp, Bradley, Fuentes, Street
Published 6/11/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
New Rosenthal.  Seems like he just put a column out a few days ago. Rosenthal believes the Dodgers would consider trading a young player (especially Matt Kemp) for a slugger.  He discusses what it would take to get Jason Bay, Magglio Ordonez, Adam Dunn, or Matt Holliday.  This all seems like a ...

Rosenthal on Trades
Published 6/11/2008 by Shawn (noreply@blogger.com) at Cincinnati Reds Blog
Ken Rosenthal has rapidly become the go-to guy for trade speculation. In his recent column at Fox Sports.com, Rosenthal speculates that the Dodgers might trade Matt Kemp to get a big bat. Well, that immediately makes one wonder if Adam Dunn could be involved. Maybe, but Rosenthal discounts the idea, calling Dunn a "rental" and "expensive," suggesting Jason Bay is a more likely target. I would be interested in a Dunn-for-Kemp deal. Kemp, 23, is a real talent, and a capable center fielder who can hit. He's a likely star. An outfield with Kemp and Jay Bruce would likely rank among the best in the game going forward. But, as is said, it's a long shot.

Rosenthal: Yanks trying to unload Hawkins
Published 6/11/2008 by anaconda at Pinstripe Alley
... The free agent acquisition of LaTroy Hawkins last December was perhaps the most predictable failure of the entire offseason next to Dontrelle Willis getting massacred in the American League. Ken Rosenthal reports that Cashman is now trying to right this terrible wrong: The Yankees are aggressively shopping right-hander LaTroy Hawkins, two rival executives say, intending to clear a spot for a reliever who currently is at Class AAA. Righty J.B. Cox, who missed all of last season after undergoing elbow-ligament transplant surgery, is ...

Yanks Aggressively Shopping Hawkins
Published 6/11/2008 by Greg Cohen (noreply@blogger.com) at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
From Ken Rosenthal (hat tip to River Ave. Blues): The Yankees are aggressively shopping right-hander LaTroy Hawkins, two rival executives say, intending to clear a spot for a reliever who currently is at Class AAA. Righty J.B. Cox, who missed all of last season after undergoing elbow-ligament transplant surgery, is one candidate; he began the season at Class A, but has since moved to AAA, where he has allowed one run in 12 1/3 innings. Righty David Robertson, who began the season at AA, also has been impressive at AAA. Hawkins, signed to a one-year, $3.75 million free-agent contract, has a 6.08 ERA in 22 appearances . . .Well he's become completely useless in the pen, ...

Scroll way down in this piece, but according to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees are aggressively shopping LaTroy Hawkins with the idea of bringing up Cox. I know everyone who reads this blog will be excited to hear that news.

Brilliant. Why didn’t I think of that? I wasn’t planning on putting up another post so soon after praising Martin (sidenote: Vote Martin ’08!), but this article just came out about two hours ago, and I can’t help but take a look at it here. It’s FOXsports.com’s Ken Rosenthal with more crazy trade rumors! I’m often torn between wanting to ...

Moneyball & The Pirates

No, this isn’t some long, insightful, stats-based post. I’m just here to say that I re-read Moneyball by Michael Lewis (great book, by the way), and I’m even more depressed now about the Pirates. It seems like it could take a while to get this ship turned around… even if this year’s draft was as amazing as it looks right now (especially if you love your ...

Trade Rumors Circling: Kemp, Ethier, Loney on the Block?
Published 6/12/2008 by DodgerFan at dodgerfan.net
If you believe Ken Rosenthal at Fox Sports, that is indeed the case.  According to Ken’s article, the Dodgers might actually pull the trigger on dealing one of the kids for a proven hitter, ala Jason Bay, Magglio Ordonez or Matt  Holliday. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and have had a change of heart: I think the Dodgers should consider trading one (1) of their younger players.  I would have a bunch of conditions attached, of course, with the first being that Matt Kemp is off the table.  The guy is a future All-Star and he wants to be a Dodger.  I’d prefer to deal Loney or LaRoche, and could be convinced to move Ethier if the price ...

Ken Rosenthal thinks Dontrelle Willis is too fat to pitch. ESPN.com’s Buster Olney thinks Miguel Cabrera is too fat to hit. (hat-tip Spotstarters) Considering everyone commented how fit Cabrera was when he arrived at camp, one of two things is going on. 1) He’s got really! bad metabolism and eats like a horse to gain all that weight back that fast after signing his gigantic contract. 2) The excesses of his contract and the absences of his bat have left analysts who predicted a monster year grasping for forks and falling back on their favorite analysis: HE FAT! Jim Leyland doesn’t think it’s an issue. ...

Ken Rosenthal Suggests Trading Matt Kemp
Published 6/13/2008 by kensai (noreply@blogger.com) at Fire Ned Colletti Now
I know this old news by now, so you've probably already heard about this story, but I just need to go on record and say how ridiculous this rumor is. Basically, Ken Rosenthal speculates on what the Dodgers could get in return for Matt Kemp. "Make outfielder Matt Kemp available, and the Dodgers' trade options quickly would multiply. Make Kemp available, and the team could put together a package for virtually any hitter on the trade market — the Pirates' Jason Bay, maybe the Tigers' Magglio Ordonez, maybe even the Rockies' Matt ...

Rockies May Find Podsednik, Taveras Expendable

On Tuesday, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle hinted that Ryan Spilborghs would begin to receive more playing time in center field.  As a result, Troy E. Dodgers are Impotent

[image] By my math the Dodgers have scored either 0 or 1 run in 12 of their last 22 games. No positive way you can put a spin on that, my friends. I watched most of the game at a sports bar downtown in hopes of taking a drink every time they scored a run off of Detroit's Armando Galarraga . And I stayed sober just like the old nun. On the heels of this current slide comes word that the Dodgers may be looking to shop Matt Kemp . I'm pretty sure if they keep him he never reaches his potential and ends up playing in Japan by 2012. If they deal him however he will go 40/40 every year as a perennial All-Star. Out of the list of names Rosenthal lists as potential suitors for Kemp, ...

GO ANGELS! OK. Let me explain the above line. You see, I lost a bet and sometimes you gotta suck it up and pay off. Unfortunately, this bet didn't have money involved, but consist of some active participation. I've done this many times in my life. In high school I played the Wolverine fight song on a trombone after UofM beat USC in the Rose Bowl. Last year I wore the cheesiest Anaheim Ducks tie to work for a week after their Stanley Cup win. (That was a terribly harrowing experience than would be akin to wearing a Giants tie to Dodger fans) I never seem to learn my lesson. Now on to this weeks links. [image] According to Dos Equis’ “Most Interesting Man in the World” it’s never too early to start thinking about your obituary. With that in mind, I’m going to write about the demise of the 2008 Dodgers, even though it’s only mid-June. After being swept by the Tigers and dropping their last 5 straight, the woeful Dodgers have fallen 5.5 behind the stunningly mediocre Diamondbacks and look absolutely dead in the water. There’s no real mystery to the team’s struggles either—they’re currently 22nd in the league in runs per game and 25th in defensive efficiency. Russell Martin, the only Dodger playing worth a damn, is surrounded by a few guys who are essentially league-average players ( Loney ...

Rockies Rumors: Holliday, Fuentes, Torrealba

Peter Gammons was in the house today, working over time on the Cubs rumor mill. Not sure about you, but I'm a huge Peter Gammons fan. Love the guy's stuff. For my money, he's among the best and most reliable baseball writers in the game. That's why he's in the Hall of Fame. If I were running baseball, this guy would have been named Commissioner years ago. Let's get to what Petey had to say today, along with a few other rumors from around the Internets: Gammons has talked ($) to some sources in the Cubs front office and reveals that the Cubs have some self-esteem issues regarding the perception of their farm system: "They doubt they have enough ...
