Thoughts before Game #6 in Dallas
Published 5/19/2008 by Christy Hammond at Behind the Jersey
... could get back or what’s keeping him from moving forward? NICKLAS LIDSTROM: I think last thing I heard, he’s feeling better, he’s able to ride the bike now. We have to leave that up to the experts, the doctors. If you start exercising, get headaches again, it can be dangerous. You don’t want to push it too early. But, no, that’s where the doctors’ expertise come in. Other pregame thoughts Matt Saler @ On the Wings George Malik @ Snapshots Dave @ Gorilla Crouch IwoCPO @ Abel to Yzerman ...

Flyers Fall To Penguins At Home, In 3-0 Series Hole

For all the praise the Penguins get about their offense, their defensive prowess has been on display in this series, shutting down a strong Philadelphia team. Through the first two periods in game 3, the Flyers were only able to make 8 shots on goal. The Penguins have been able to disrupt the Flyers passing and have prevented them from getting much traffic in front of Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pens To Cup Final
The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first team to the Stanley Cup Final. The Pens soundly defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 Sunday night leaving no doubt that the Pens loss in game four was a wake-up call. Having swept the Ottawa Senators in four games then taking care of the New York Rangers in five games, it was only fitting that the Pens took care of the Flyers in five games as well. So ...

LORD STANLEY, LORD STANLEY...
PENGUINS 6 FLYERS 0 2001-02: 28-41-8, 69 points. 2002-03: 27-44-6, 65 points. 2003-04: 23-47-8, 58 points. 2005-06: 22-46-8, 58 points. Those were some long years, Penguin fans. Some LONG years. And that's before I bring up the fact that this team was up for sale and facing the possibility of relocation as recently as last year. But Penguins management had a vision, one that was at least ...
Game Five: Bitter End to Flyers Season in 6-0 Loss
There were no positives to come from game 5’s massacre blowout for the Flyers. Nothing to look forward to but Saturday morning’s tee time and not even a goal to stand for all the accomplishments of the 2007-08 season. The Flyers were blown out 6-0 Sunday evening, and blown out of playoff contention, as the [...]
Hop in the Cordova Baby...
cause we're goin dancin' with Lord Stanley! I was waiting for "spit shine our shoes" from Mike, but it still sounded glorious. All six goals were glorious. The play of Mr. Marc-Andre Fleury was glorious. Your Pittsburgh Penguins are going to be playing for the Stanley Cup. Are there any Flyers trolls left to pillage the comments? Anyone at all left who thinks that Biron can solve the Pens? ...
Flyers Play The Pressure Game
from the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Flyers said the keys to winning are doing what they did in Game 4: strong forechecking and getting quality shots on goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. “The first couple of games, I think we let him off the hook,” Richards said of Fleury. “Not going to the net and trying to pass around him too much. . . . But when you get pucks to the net and ...
Game Four: Change of Heart; Timonen and Coburn Could Return Sunday
After taking a three game break, the Flyers decided to show up for a home game Thursday, when they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 to force a game five. The first three contests were really no contest, as the Flyers let the Penguins do pretty much whatever they wished. But in game four the Flyers [...]
The Day in Review
I need to vent about Crosby, Malkin, Gill, Scuderi - basically all the Pens letting down Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Staal. Blah. On to baseball. Injury News Chipper Jones is getting a few days off with a bum groin. If all he misses this year are some days here and there, though, his owners will be thrilled. Nick Johnson is out 4-6 weeks with an injured wrist. Dimitri Young will step into ...
Thursday's three stars: Flyers shuffle up and steal one
No. 1 star: Daniel Briere , Philadelphia Flyers It was a Briere rush up the left wing boards that drew a Sergei Gonchar hold to set up the Flyers' first power play. It was Briere who knifed between Pens goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and 6-foot-7 defenseman Hal Gill to corral a rebound and deposit it into the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Briere who responded well to a lineup shuffle to invigorate ...
Fleury showing he was worth a No.1 pick
Marc-Andre Fleury has flown under the radar this spring because of the brilliance of his teammates Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin , the timely goals of Marian Hossa , Ryan Malone and Petr Sykora and the superb defensive work of Sergei Gonchar . Still, he's stopped 313 of 334 shots in the Pens' stirring playoff run as the team rattled off 11 wins in their 12 post-season games. Fleury may have ...
Impressive Penguins
From Gene Collier at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Penguins are simply too much.  Too fast. Too precise. Too disciplined. And too reliably backstopped by the consistently brilliant Marc-Andre Fleury. All of it too much of a mountain for anyone on this side of the Conferencial Divide. Even within the mandatory confidence of professional athletes, did anyone in the room think ...
2nd & Short: Use of name doesn't fly with Bird
Shooting from the Lip  "[Carey] Price had his ups and downs. I think we made his life miserable by always being in his face. We did the same thing, I thought, with [Cristobal] Huet, we made it pretty tough on him. I thought we haven't had the chance to make it tough enough on [Marc-André] Fleury." — Daniel Bri è re of the Philadelphia Flyers to nhl.com, regarding the Flyers' ...
Father Time is working against Marc-Andre Fleury
The one thing you can usually bank on is Marc-Andre Fleury being consistently inconsistent. So to see the Penguins' goalie playing the best hockey of his career - and doing it for such a long time now - you have to wonder when he's going to come crashing back to Earth. When MAF went down with a high-ankle sprain in December, I did up a post poking at whether it was finally the end of ...
ORANGE CRUSHED
PENGUINS 4 FLYERS 1 There is nothing sweeter for a Penguin fan than watching 19,965 orange-clad Philadelphians go home disappointed. Actually, there is; that would be a win in Game Four on Thursday night, which would be sweeping the Flyers off of their own ice. But we'll just have to wait a bit on the inevitable. This game was all about de-fense, de-fense, and more de-fense. That, ...
Penguins/Flyers Game 3: Liveblog
Games don't get much more important than game three's in a 2-0 series and tonight's Penguins/Flyers game is no exception. If the Flyers win, they cut Pittsburgh's lead down to 2-1 with another game in the Wachovia Center looming on Thursday. If the Penguins win, they take a 3-0 lead and history, the odds, and basic probability is on their side. Can the Flyers get to Marc-Andre Fleury? Can the ...
Don’t Forget Conklin
From the CP via TSN, Much has been said and written about Evgeni Malkin’s superb play when Sidney Crosby went down with injury this season. But it also should not be forgotten that the Pittsburgh Penguins, nearing a Stanley Cup final berth, may not even be here had it not been for how Ty Conklin stepped in for the injured Marc-Andre Fleury this season. “Him and Gino, it ...
Fleury Fits In Well With Penguins Defensive System
from Bob Smizik of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, So is it Fleury or is it the team concept? “I will say it is a combination of both,” said coach Michel Therrien. “First of all, Marc-Andre, he’s really square to the puck. The game slowed down in front of him. That’s normal. Well, he’s only 23, but he has got a few years of experience and you ask any ...
