The Washington Nationals' '09 Rotation?
Federal Baseball — ... Last night, Tuesday, Bill Rhinehart hit his first HR of the Fall and it was a BIG one as he knocked in 4 with a 1st inning Grand Slam. Rhinehart ended up going 1 for 4 with a run scored and 2 walks to raise his average to an even .200. Leonard Davis was 2 for 3 with an RBI and now a .314 AVG...Ian Desmond was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, but in spite of all that offense, the Saguaros dropped another to the Javelinas when their pitchers allowed 20 hits and 18 runs in an 18-13 loss to the other Peoria team in front of a reported 142 ...

Ajax’s hot hitting continues
River Avenue Blues — AzFL Peoria (18-11 win over the other Peoria) Kevin Russo: 1 for 2, 2 RBI, 1 BB - pinch ran for Milwaukee prospect Taylor Green after he was a pitch … you may recognize that name; Green is one of the two players the Indians could have selected as the fourth guy in the Sabathia trade, but they went with Michael Brantley instead Austin Jackson: 3 for 6, 1 R, 2 RBI - 9 for his last 24 (.375) Jeff Marquez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 3-1 GB/FB - 24 of 47 pitches were strikes (51.1%) HWB Waikiki (7-2 lead over West Oahu in the 5th) all Yanks’ prospects ...

Daily Farm Report 10/21/08
Future Redbirds — More Anthony Reyes soap opera fodder. Arizona Fall League Brett Wallace’s team scored 11 runs, but he didn’t have a hand in it. Now hitting .133, Wallace went 0-for-6 with a strikeout. I’m not too worried about him, but he’s 4-for-30 with 11 strikeouts so far. Saying nothing about his struggles at the plate, Wallace pinch-hit at Justin Fiske’s AFL blog. The Saguaros gave up a total of 18 runs, and a couple of Cardinal pitchers played a part in the blood bath. Tyler Norrick gave up three runs on four hits, including two homers, and struck out three in his one inning of work. For his inning, ...

Is Kunz making K-Rod an easy decision....
Mets Fever — Eddie Kunz might be making Omar's job a lot easy but not in a way that will make the young reliever happy. Coming off an eight run implosion in his last outing, Kunz was once again shaky (ERA 12.79). Last night with an eight run cushion, Kunz took over in the ninth and allowed a run on two hits and two walks. While that's a drastic improvement over his last outing it's still not going to make anyone think he's even close to ready for the majors, let's face it the Arizona Fall league is a far cry from the pros. If Kunz had dominated the fall league, with the supporting relievers the Mets have I could see Omar justifying taking a pass on K-Rod or ...

Daily Farm Report 10/22/08
Future Redbirds — Easy asks: Does anyone have a good estimate of the level of competition for all of these winter leagues? I’d be particularly interested in the Hawaiian League as I have thought that Arnoldi Cruz’s season was pretty impressive considering he was learning a difficult new position and was in a pitcher’s park in a pitcher’s league. Any info would be appreciated. The AFL is by far the most competitive league, since it’s made up mostly of AA and AAA players, usually the team’s better prospects mixed in with some players who teams are making decisions on whether or not to keep on their forty man roster. It’s more ...

Eddie Kunz had another rough go of it, allowing a run on two hits and two walks in mop-up duty in the ninth. Hawaiian Winter Baseball North Shore Honu 7, Honolulu Sharks 0 ...

AFL Update...Washington Nationals' Prospects Impressing In Arizona Fall League.
Federal Baseball — Washington Nationals' infield prospect Ian Desmond hit his first Arizona Fall League HR in the eighth inning of Thursday's game against the Surprise Rafters to give Peoria a 4-1 lead in what would eventually be a 9-1 Saguaros' win. Desmond also committed a two-out error in the bottom of the fourth that didn't hurt the team, but could it possibly be Desmond's eighth error of the Fall? In 15 games? Turns out it's TRUE. ...A quick glance at Ian Desmond's minors.baseball-reference.com page shows that he also ...

Phil Hughes gives up 4 runs, 1 earned in Rising Stars

Center fielder Austin Jackson went 0 for 1 with a strike out and a walk. I would of liked to see Phil Hughes dominate since he’s supposed to be a big league pitcher. Are the Padres Still Eyeing Tommy Hanson?
Talking Chop — According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, despite being told point blank by the Braves that Tommy Hanson is not available, the Padres still seem to be fixated on him: Before Braves General Manager Frank Wren told the Associated Press on Thursday that he will not be trading his top prospects, the Braves, as part of trade talks involving Padres ace Jake Peavy, had told the Padres they will not deal their top pitching prospect, Tommy Hanson. The Padres haven't stopped scouting Hanson in the Arizona Fall League; Friday, for the second time in seven days, they had three scouts there to watch and once again Hanson performed well. ...

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/27/2008
Brew Crew Ball — In Arizona: Omar Aguilar was the only Brewer to appear in Friday's AFL Rising Stars Game.
