Brett Wallace’s team scored 11 runs, but he didn’t have a hand in it. Now hitting .133, Wallace went 0-for-6 with a strikeout. I’m not too worried about him, but he’s 4-for-30 with 11 strikeouts so far. Saying nothing about his struggles at the plate, Wallace pinch-hit at Justin Fiske’s AFL blog.

Eddie Kunz might be making Omar's job a lot easy but not in a way that will make the young reliever happy. Coming off an eight run implosion in his last outing, Kunz was once again shaky (ERA 12.79). Last night with an eight run cushion, Kunz took over in the ninth and allowed a run on two hits and two walks. While that's a drastic improvement over his last outing it's still not going to make anyone think he's even close to ready for the majors, let's face it the Arizona Fall league is a far cry from the pros. Does anyone have a good estimate of the level of competition for all of these winter leagues? I’d be particularly interested in the Hawaiian League as I have thought that Arnoldi Cruz’s season was pretty impressive considering he was learning a difficult new position and was in a pitcher’s park in a pitcher’s league. Any info would be appreciated.
The AFL is by far the most competitive league, since it’s made up mostly of AA and AAA players, usually the team’s better prospects mixed in with some players who teams are making decisions on whether or not to keep on their forty man roster. It’s more ...

Baseball America kicks off their draft report cards, starting with the AL East. The NL Central report cards will be out next week, in the meantime they rate the best tools. Brett Wallace is number one on their list for best pure hitter and best pro debut, and he ranks fourth as being closest to the majors behind Conor Gillaspie, Brian Matusz and Ryan Perry.
Despite his struggles so far in fall ball, Brett Wallace is playing in the Rising Stars AFL Showcase. Read all about it here and here.

He accounted for the only run however as the Peoria Javelinas lost to the Phoenix Phoenix Desert Dogs by a score of 13-1. Juan Miranda went 0 for 3 with 1 walk. Austin Jackson is batting .265. Miranda is batting .359. Humberto Sanchez got rocked giving up 6 earned runs on 6 hits and he didn’t get an out in the start of the 6th inning. His era is 33.75. Phil Hughes will also get the start in the Rising Stars game today at 7:15 PM Mountain.

Washington Nationals' infield prospect Ian Desmond hit his first Arizona Fall League HR in the eighth inning of Thursday's game against the Surprise Rafters to give Peoria a 4-1 lead in what would eventually be a 9-1 Saguaros' win. Desmond also committed a two-out error in the bottom of the fourth that didn't hurt the team, but could it possibly be Desmond's eighth error of the Fall? In 15 games? Turns out it's TRUE.

In Arizona: Omar Aguilar was the only Brewer to appear in Friday's AFL Rising Stars Game. He pitched the ninth, gave up a run on two hits, and was credited with both a blown save and the win as the National Rising Stars came out on top, 7-6.
Then on Saturday, Lou Palmisano entered the game late and went 0-for-1, Lorenzo Cain went 0-for-4, Alexandre Periard walked three and allowed two runs in one inning of work, and Brae Wright allowed a run on two hits and two walks in two innings as the Javelinas got blown out by the Saguaros, 15-4.
The AFL was off on Sunday, but returns to action today with the Javelinas hosting Scottsdale at 2:35. ...
