11/9 Winter Ball Report
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog — In the AFL the Peoria Javelinas lost to the Surprise Rafters 9-6: Box Score - Recap - Game Story Phil Hughes started for the Javelinas and continued his inconsistent winter. After having a great outing his last time out he followed it with a very unimpressive 2.1 innings today. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3. He threw 72 pitches, 40 for strikes. Kevin Whelan pitched 1.2 innings in relief. He didn't allow a run, he walked 2 and struck out 2. He threw 32 pitches, 15 for strikes. Humberto Sanchez pitched one third of an inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. He threw 23 pitches, 11 for ...

Fall/Winter League Update for 11/10/2008
Brew Crew Ball — In Arizona: Friday, Brent Brewer entered the game late and went 0-for-2, Lorenzo Cain went 1-for-4 with an RBI, David Welch threw two scoreless innings with two hits and two strikeouts, and Omar Aguilar allowed only a walk while striking out two in one inning of work as the Javelinas lost again, 13-4 to the Saguaros. Then on Saturday, no Brewers appeared and the Javelinas lost their 10th game in 11 opportunities, 9-6 to Surprise. The AFL was off Sunday, so at least the Javelinas didn't lose again. They travel to Mesa at 1:35 today. In ...

Future Redbirds — Jim Callis shoots down a Rays fan’s notion of trading Rasmus for some of their pitching surplus, but he thinks the Rays would be open to trading Rick Ankiel for Edwin Jackson and Jeff Niemann or Ryan Ludwick for Niemann and Andrew Sonnanstine. Niemann has nothing left to prove in the minors, and should be solid but not great. I would love to have Andy Sonnanstine. Throw in VEB cult favorite Ben Zobrist, and if I were Mo, I’d be sorely tempted if the opportunity presented itself. As for Ankiel for Jackson and Niemann….myeh. No thanks. Arizona Fall League ...

Austin Jackson went 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI, and two runs scored. Juan Miranda went 2-for-5 with a HR, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Other Yankees are playing in the Venezuelan, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Dominican winter leagues. Here's a run down of the players in each league: Venezuelan League: Francisco Cervelli is playing for Cardenales de Lara. Reegie Corona is ...

Future Redbirds — Derrick Goold continues his reader top 30, and Daryl Jones once again needs our help. I like David Freese and all, but how he is a better prospect than Jones is baffling to me. I think he won his own district, if you catch my drift. Now he’s falling behind Motte and Jess Todd and looking to land at #8. Do I like Jones too much? I’m still fine tuning my personal rankings, he’s either my #4 or #5 prospect, either before or after Anderson. I think DG had like seven blog posts today, making me feel…well…lazy. In this one he has updates on how the some prospects are doing in fall ball, including a progress report on ...

Future Redbirds — Daryl needs your vote. Arizona Brett Wallace went 2-for-4 with a HR. Koo Koo Ka Choo. Steve Hill went 1-for-3 with a walk. Tyler Greene went 0-for-3 with and was HBP. Adam Ottavino needed another solid outing under his belt, and he went out and pitched quite well. He went 4 innings, allowed 5 hits and a walk and struck out 6. Tyler Norrick allowed a run on a pair of hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out four. Hawaii Arnoldi Cruz went 1-for-3 with a walk. Playing 1B, he ...

AFL Update...Nationals' Prospects In Action In Arizona...PLUS An Update On "The Plan".
Federal Baseball — AFL UPDATE... It's been a while since I checked in with the Nationals' prospects in the Arizona Fall League with all this trade talk distracting me from the onfield action out West, but the last time we did the Peoria Saguaros held a tenuous 1.0 game lead over the AFL American Division's second-place Mesa Solar Sox.  Monday 11/10 Phoenix Desert Dogs at Peoria... DC pitching prospect Zechry Zinicola pitched the eighth inning of what looked ...

Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog — In the AFL the Peoria Javelinas lost to the Peoria Saguaros 3-2: Box Score - Recap - Game Story Jeff Marquez started for the Javelinas and picked up his second loss of the winter. In 4 innings he allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2. He threw 75 pitches, 47 for strikes. Daily Farm Report 11/13/08
Future Redbirds — Kevin Goldstein has his Top 11 Red prospects, and there are a system flush with hitters. As for pitching, not so much. KG concludes: The Reds system isn’t what it used to be, but after putting as much talent in the majors as they did in 2008, fans have nothing to complain about. There’s still a nice collection of hitting prospects here, but when it comes to pitching, which remains a big need at the major league level, the system is paper-thin. At Bird Land’s community Top 30, it’s an unbelievably close runoff between Jess Todd and Daryl Jones. If you haven’t voted yet, do so. ...

Kennedy pitched 3.2 innings allowing three earned runs on six hits, walked one, struck out seven, and hit a batter. Mayaguez lost the ...

Nationals' Prospects In Action In The Arizona Fall and Dominican Winter Leagues...
Federal Baseball — AFL UPDATE... After Wednesday night's 3-2 victory over the Peoria Javelina's, the Peoria Saguaros dropped Thursday night's rematch by a score of 9-6, which left the Saguaros tied atop the Arizona Fall League's American Division with the Mesa Solar Sox heading into play on Friday. The Javelina's needed a 6-run eighth inning Thursday night to give them enough of a lead to hold off the late-charging Saguaros, who scored 4 runs in the ninth but came up short in their comeback attempt.  Ian Desmond was the only ...

Waikiki takes home the title
River Avenue Blues — James Donten has been been photographing High-A Sarasota Reds’ games for the last two seasons, and finally put together a website for his work. You can check out his gallery of Tampa Yanks’ players here. AzFL Peoria had a scheduled off day. HWB Waikiki (5-1 win over West Oahu) Waikiki wins the HWB Championship, the first in franchise history, including the league’s first go-around (’93-’97) … the title game was rained out last year and North Shore was given the title by default, so at least this year they actually got the game in Damon Sublett: 0 for ...
