In the AFL the Peoria Javelinas lost to the Surprise Rafters 9-6: Box Score - Recap - Game Story Phil Hughes started for the Javelinas and continued his inconsistent winter. After having a great outing his last time out he followed it with a very unimpressive 2.1 innings today. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3. He threw 72 pitches, 40 for strikes. Kevin Whelan pitched 1.2 innings in relief. He didn't allow a run, he walked 2 and struck out 2. He threw 32 pitches, 15 for strikes. Fall/Winter League Update for 11/10/2008
Brew Crew Ball —
In Arizona: Friday, Brent Brewer entered the game late and went 0-for-2, Lorenzo Cain went 1-for-4 with an RBI, David Welch threw two scoreless innings with two hits and two strikeouts, and Omar Aguilar allowed only a walk while striking out two in one inning of work as the Javelinas lost again, 13-4 to the Saguaros.
Then on Saturday, no Brewers appeared and the Javelinas lost their 10th game in 11 opportunities, 9-6 to Surprise.
The AFL was off Sunday, so at least the Javelinas didn't lose again. They travel to Mesa at 1:35 today.

Jim Callis shoots down a Rays fan’s notion of trading Rasmus for some of their pitching surplus, but he thinks the Rays would be open to trading Rick Ankiel for Edwin Jackson and Jeff Niemann or Ryan Ludwick for Niemann and Andrew Sonnanstine.
Niemann has nothing left to prove in the minors, and should be solid but not great. I would love to have Andy Sonnanstine. Throw in VEB cult favorite Ben Zobrist, and if I were Mo, I’d be sorely tempted if the opportunity presented itself. As for Ankiel for Jackson and Niemann….myeh. No thanks.

I think he won his own district, if you catch my drift. Now he’s falling behind Motte and Jess Todd and looking to land at #8. Do I like Jones too much? The Reds system isn’t what it used to be, but after putting as much talent in the majors as they did in 2008, fans have nothing to complain about. There’s still a nice collection of hitting prospects here, but when it comes to pitching, which remains a big need at the major league level, the system is paper-thin.

After Wednesday night's 3-2 victory over the Peoria Javelina's, the Peoria Saguaros dropped Thursday night's rematch by a score of 9-6, which left the Saguaros tied atop the Arizona Fall League's American Division with the Mesa Solar Sox heading into play on Friday. The Javelina's needed a 6-run eighth inning Thursday night to give them enough of a lead to hold off the late-charging Saguaros, who scored 4 runs in the ninth but came up short in their comeback attempt.
