Every Monday, I'm going to be summarizing the handful of Brewers prospects participating in the Hawaii Winter League and, starting later this week, the Arizona Fall League. In the former, the Brewers players are on the West Oahu CaneFires, and in the latter they're members of the ...

RAB live chat tomorrow, I’m thinking 2pm EDT so our west coast friends can get in on the action. Here’s our past chats.
AzFL Peoria (8-7 win over Surprise)
Austin Jackson: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K - in addition to driving in the Javelinas’ seventh run, he was at the plate when a wild pitch allowed the game winning run to score
Jeff Marquez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1-3 GB/FB - 18 of 28 pitches were strikes (64.3%) … don’t read too much into him pitching in relief, the team is carrying 21 pitchers, they all can’t start
HWB Waikiki (3-1 loss to ...

Move over Jess Todd, Adam Reifer is the one who will destroy us all.
“Basically every player I play, I grow a hatred toward them. I just hate them. No one’s going to take me down, I have to go out there and destroy them.”
If you’re looking for a definition of a “closer mentality”, I think that would be it. Just a great look at Adam Reifer by BA.
Peoria 10, Scottsdale 7
Adam Ottavino packed his struggles and took them with him to Arizona. He lasted two innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
His teammate ...

Josh Thole, catcher , 0-3, 2 BB, 1 R (St. Lucie). Thole hit .300/.382/.427 in 347 at-bats as a 21-year-old with St. Lucie in 2008. He didn't distinguish himself in three prior minor league seasons with the Mets, but an .809 OPS as a catcher is certainly encouraging.

10/8 AFL and Hawaii Winter Ball Report

People seemed to like these during the regular season, so I'll post nightly reports on the Hawaii Winter Ball and the Arizona Fall League. First in the AFL the Peoria Javelinas beat the Surprise Rafters 8-7: Box Score - Recap Jeff Marquez pitched in relief for the Javelinas and pitched well. In two innings he allowed no runs on one hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out two. He threw 28 pitches, 18 of them for strikes. Austin Jackson went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. In Hawaii Winter Ball the Waikiki BeachBoys lost to the ...

He went 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits, while walking four and striking out four. He did not have good control of his pitches, he threw just 38 of his 77 pitches for strikes. He's now 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in three starts for the BeachBoys. Damon Sublett went 0-for-3 with a strike out. AzFL Peoria (6-4 win over Pheonix)
Austin Jackson: 0 for 4 - grounded into your garden variety 1-6-5-3-4-3 double play
Juan Miranda: 4 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI - he destroys this league
Kevin Russo: 0 for 1, 1 K - pinch hit late for the Reds’ Justin Turner
HWB Waikiki (4-0 loss to Waikiki in 7 innings) I give up, no friggin’ idea why they’re only playing 7 innings
Damon Sublett: 0 for 3, 1 K - first hitless game since coming to the islands
Andrew Brackman: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 3-3 GB/FB - only 38 of 77 ...

I can't help but agree with Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball, who says that Aaron Heilman should be cut a little slack. I count myself among a shrinking list of Heilman supporters, and would be disappointed if the Mets sold extremely low by shipping him out of town this offseason. Healey sums up Heilman's lost season in 2008:
The fact of the matter is, Aaron Heilman deserves the benefit of the doubt from the Mets, the fans and the media. He pitched through an injury this year that didn't only curtail his ability to stay on his regular workout regimen, but also likely altered his mechanics and effectiveness of his slider and change, the latter being his ...
