Redsauce +2Finally, baseball starts to take serious action against umpires. MLB's needed to do this for some time and I'm very happy that he's not going to be doing any post-season games as well.-
Richie Rich It's really unbelieveable that Winters said what he said.
He'll be branded by this for the rest of his career. And deservedly so.

Redsauce I can't find exactly what he said. The video mentions "an expletive aimed at [Milton Bradley] so egregious in the eyes of MLB" that it caused the suspension, but that's all I can find. -
Jason Do you have an inside scoop on what was said, Richie? Spill it!-

(Padres first base coach Bobby) Meacham said he answered questions about the incident from major league lawyers, then gave them his entire version. He said he is certain that Winters, who was standing near first base, instigated the incident by calling Bradley a “bleeping piece of (expletive).”

Jason Thanks. Winters will undoubtedly hear something similar from Padres fans next time he works PETCO Park.

Umpire Winters Suspended

... Not that this excuses Milton Bradley for his behavior in Sunday’s contest against the San Francisco Giants, but Mike Winters, the first-base umpire whom the Padres claimed provoked the incident, has been suspended by MLB for the remainder of the 2007 regular season. Bradley, whose tirade ended with his suffering a torn ACL after being tackled by his own manager, clearly has some anger issues; at the same time, it is — or should be — the responsibility of the umpires to keep situations from escalating. ...
Piece of sh_t, Mike Winters, suspended for the rest of the season.

I haven't found a link, but that's what ESPN is reporting. Justice is served. I don't usually let my political leanings in on the blog, but I will say that when it comes to baseball, I very much subscribe to an old school eye for an eye, capitalistic, rather conservative mentality. ...
So Milton Bradley Was Right?
Published 9/26/2007 by Phillips at Rumors and Rants
... between Milton Bradley and umpire Mike Winters, most people probably just assumed that Bradley had once again flown off the handle for no reason and put his career in jeopardy once again. Hell, we were even skeptical and we're huge Padres homers. Turns out Bradley's claim that Winters acted in an incredibly unprofessional manner and used profanity directed at him was likely true, evidenced by today's announcement that Winters has been suspended for the remainder of the season by Major League Baseball. ...

... -P- I'm sure you saw the tape of Milton Bradley getting injured while Bud Black appeared to be preventing him from going all Randy Couture on an umpire. Well, Bradley has said that he was just going to talk to the guy, and it turns out the umpire must've really said something to provoke him: ...
