N.Y. Sun: Marchman: With Santana, Mets’s Minaya Outdoes Himself Everything’s Coming Our Way! At a stroke, then, the Mets have regained their promise as the team of tomorrow, addressed their greatest weakness, and showed up the Yankees, all at a reasonable price; there must be a catch, no? Of course there must be, and here it’s the phrase “four prospects.” Surely had you told Minaya, or any Mets fan, at the outset of these negotiations that he would only have to give up outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Phil Humber, Delois Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey, he would have performed ...

... of the Yankees each day...we just always thought that a good writer -- or columnist -- never makes the story about him or herself . Does Matthews really believe that his column is what made Omar pull the trigger? Does he think Bill Smith is reading Newsday out in Minnesota? (You can't see this, but we're shaking our heads...) We don't particularly enjoy trashing columnists, but Matthews has infuriated us for awhile. So even though it's about Omar and the Mets, we still enjoyed some good, objective writing and perspective from Tim Marchman today at the ...

... landing for home runs. But. Santana's WARP and VORP totals are essentially pure profit for the Mets, since some of the guys they were running out there last year were replacement level talents at best. Considering that the Mets managed to achieve this without giving up a single top-tier prospect, this is a happy day for Mets fans. In the New York Sun, Tim Marchman writes that Omar Minaya has outdone himself: Trading for Santana at all would ...

... MLB experience for one pitcher. They were all in the Top Ten Prospects list from Baseball America. b) Other teams knew they wanted to deal, so they were backed into a corner. c) Not only had the trading partner to literally give up the farm for one player, but they had to consider the possibility of giving up the largest deal for a pitcher in the history of the game. I have no idea why some writers would consider this a steal, but I'd be interested in hearing about it. Reactions: 'With Santana, Met's Minaya Outdoes Himself' , New York Sun ...
Damaged Goods/Viva Johan!!!

... I lied above. Joe Posnanski had probably the best piece of all on the trade. It really gives you some valuable insight and basically, no one is right or wrong. There are valid reasons to be on either side of the fence or straddling it. Some Yankee fan called into WFAN yesterday and said Johan is not even the best pitcher in the league. Josh Beckett is. Right, even if I conceded to that madness, then he is the second best. What is the point? I heart Time Marchman and his stoic looking picture. As if that piece was not enough, he ...
