BLISTERING RELIEF?—Kerry Wood might duck the disabled list after all and be ready to go back to work come late week, if a reported new treatment ointment and the Cubs’ starters’ recent habit of going deep enough to keep the bullpen spelled somewhat continue working. Manager Lou Piniella said the recent set with Houston, in which the Cubs rotation worked most of the innings and gave the bullpen a decent spell, allows them to “carry” Wood a few more days before he’s back in business. ...
