Heyman's Latest: Griffey, Garcia, Sabathia
Published 6/13/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... SI.com's Jon Heyman has a new column up. Ken Griffey Jr. is reportedly telling friends that the Rays are his preference if he is to be traded.  He'd be close to his Orlando home, always a major consideration for him.  Heyman says Junior would prefer to be dealt after the All-Star game.  It's not known whether the Rays have interest in Griffey, though. Freddy Garcia hit 85 mph in a recent session.  It's been suggested he could be in the Majors by late August. Heyman talked to a ...

... Jon Heyman: Griffey, 39, has a no-trade clause but has told intimates that if the Rays stay in the race, he'd consider waiving his veto power to go home. Or close to home, anyway. Tampa is much nearer his Orlando area residence than any other big-league city. Griffey's tony Isleworth community is about an hour from St. Petersburg, where the Rays play. I like Griffey, but honestly, I don't want him here, not for the price it's likely to take, but here's a far more interesting tidbit from the article: Floyd ...

Griffey to TB?
Published 6/13/2008 by Will Carroll at Baseball Prospectus: Unfiltered
Jon Heyman sniffs around at the growing rumors of Ken Griffey Jr moving to Tampa Bay in a trade. The Reds and Rays could make this trade, but there’s some complex issues. Let’s look: 1. Would Griffey help or distract the young Rays? This is a bigger question than most think. The team passed on more than a discussion of Barry Bonds for fear of repelling a growing fan base or altering their clubhouse mix. Griffey has had his way with the clubhouse in Cincinnati, getting more special privileges ...

I have been kinda consumed by packing up for my impending move on Monday, so here are some links to stories that I found interesting. Tiger Stadium gets a couple of more months on death row. I'm really happy to hear this because once I get settled into my new place in NW Ohio, my parents are going to come up for a Detroit Tigers game. My dad is a huge fan of the 1968 Detroit Tigers and attended a few games at Tiger Stadium during the '68 season. I was hoping to take him by there on our way to Comerica Park. Ken Griffey, Jr., who lives in the Orlando area, has told friends that he might consider a trade to the Tampa Bay ...

Will Carroll looks at scenarios at BP Unfiltered. Heyman also intimates that Griffey intentionally sat out the Philly series to hit his 600th HR in Florida, and is believed likely to prefer waiting to be traded until after the All-Star ...
