 Wrapping up Ian Kennedy
Kennedy.jpg So much for lacking confidence. Ian Kennedy sounded Tuesday night like a man who desperately wants another crack at big league hitters. “I’m trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky,” he said. “You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid.” No hitter through 5.2 ... [link]

"I woke up today and told my wife, I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid."

Who's he talking about there--the Charlotte Knights, or Yankee brass for sending him down?

Yanks' battle of the fittest

... Ian Kennedy started for Scranton last night and turned in a stellar performance. "No hitter through 5.2 innings. Eight strikeouts without a walk. Struck out the last three batters he faced."--SWB. "Kennedy got the message."--Cone. The message is clear--hype has taken a back seat to performance.

IPK in AAA

Ian Kennedy may have said all the wrong things when he left New York, but he did all the right things when he faced the Charlotte Knights last night. Kennedy took a no-hitter into the 6th inning before Jerry Owens singled to break it up. IPK "settled" for 7.1 innings of 1-hit ball; he didn't issue a walk and struck out 8 as he picked up the victory in Scranton's 4-0 win. Chad Jennings spoke with Kennedy after the game. “I’m trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky,” he said. “You just know. I woke up ...

... trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky. You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, ‘I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid.’ ” That he did. One hit over 7.1 innings and eight strikeouts. Now moving down the Charlotte Knights is not the same as the Detroit Tigers, but at least Kennedy seems to have his mojo back. He was that guy we saw last year. Lots more good stuff from Kennedy at the invaluable Chad Jennings Scranton blog. The pressure is on Kei ...

Kennedy On His Dominant Start In Scranton

From Chad Jennings blog: “I’m trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky,” he said. “You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid.” “It felt like it was getting better and better the last two outings, and then I got called into the office and told I was coming here,” Kennedy said. “I knew it was time, one of these times it was going to come out and I was going to have an outing like this, because I know it’s in me.” “I just ...

What Confidence Problem?

From Ian Kennedy on Chad Jenning's SWB Blog - “I’m trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky. You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, ‘I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid.’ ” He did. Finally, Ikky was truly Ikky last night for SWB. A no-no thru 5.2 and a final line of 1 hit, 8ks and 0 walks in 7.1 ip is nasty. “It felt like it was getting better and better the last two outings, and then I got called into the office and told I was coming ...

Kennedy has solid outing at AAA

... Lots of talk today about Ian Kennedy’s start last night in Scranton. If you want an inning by inning breakdown of his outing, go no further than Chad Jennings. He also has a post-wrap on Kennedy with some quotes. Here are a few interesting things Kennedy had to say last night about his start - “I’m trying to say it humbly, but it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s going to come out cocky,” he said. “You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, I just have a feeling I’m going to make these guys look stupid.” “It felt like it ...

Kennedy Shows Some Confidence

... Ian Kennedy pitched a stellar game for Scranton Wilkes-Barre last night, tossing 7.1 one-hit, shutout frames. He threw 65 percent of his pitches for strikes, and did not walk anybody. ... like the other 175 players or so in the minors.”This is only good for Kennedy, who needs a slice of humble pie at this point. After going 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA last season, he is 0-3 with a 7.41 ERA in nine games this season before going on the disabled list with a lat injury. With the rotation the way it is, Kennedy could come back in a couple of weeks and have a spot in the rotation if he continues to work hard and pitch up to his potential. If he can't, his words will come back to haunt him. “I’m trying to say it ...

Ian Kennedy is great … at AAA

With Kennedy Being Sent Down Igawa Gets A Shot

From Anthony Rieber : Kennedy's descent means the ascent of lefthander Kei Igawa, the $46-million "investment" who likely will start in Kennedy's place Friday or Saturday in Detroit. It was bound to happen

No matter how good you are, walks will kill you. Joba Chamberlain learned that lesson tonight, as he gave up the go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning. The three runs were the first he's allowed at Yankee Stadium in his career. He walked two batters in the ninth inning before allowing the pinch-hit home run to ex-Yankee David Dellucci .
