The Red Sox gave it a nice run for a while, but the Yankees are the team of the decade—again. I can just imagine what the scene in Red Sox Nation is about now. The fans are bitter. Very bitter. The Yankees are back on top, and that can’t be sitting too well in New England. Boston fans can cry all they want that the Yankees bought a championship, but so what? The Yankees are winners. They ...

New York Daily News guest columnist David Wells tells it like it is : You should read the whole thing because Wells has some choice words for Mel Stottlemyre and Joe Torre regarding the 2003 World Series. But I want to revisit this team-of-the-decade thing, since I first addressed it ...
David Wells calls Joe Torre 'such a tool'
Pinstripe Alley —
In an article he wrote for the NY Post -
Right before Game 5 (of the 2003 World Series), I had back spasms. I threw five or six warm-up pitches and told pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre to get another pitcher ready because I wasn't going to make it. Mel was like, "No, you can do it."
I threw maybe 10 warm-up pitches total in the bullpen -- I spent most of the time lying on my back -- and said, "If you guys want me to pitch, so be it."
I went out there and my first pitch was like 78 mph. I soon came out of the game, and here is why ...

Top 5 Teams of the Decade

... once again (they won that honor in the 90s as well). Although they had some hiccups in the playoffs (too many first-round exits, that 3-0 blowup), it is also magnified because they made the playoffs 9 out of 10 years--more than the rest of their entire division combined. A-Rod (238 HR) edged out Jason Giambi (209) and Jorge Posada (208) on the offensive side and Mike Mussina won 123 games to best Andy Pettitte (111). In the end, the Pinstripes rained supreme. Who is the Team of the Decade?
metspolice.com 22 days ago — The 2009 World Series is barely over and already people are debating who was the Team of the Decade. Semantics aside (the decade is technically 2001-2010), if we go by the accepted definition of 2000-2009 then it depends on how you define it. Do you want to base it on simply World Series titles? ...
Team of the Decade?
fenwaywest.com 25 days ago — Quick, who was the team of the decade for the 1980's? Can't answer? That's because it doesn't matter. FYI the Dodgers are the only team that won the World Series twice in that decade. If the Yankees win the World Series they will claim they are the "team of the decade," as will the Phillies ...

Am I watching the Phillies/Yankees World Series or Red Sox/Yankees?
batter-upwithbruno.blogspot.com 25 days ago — The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees never had any kind of rivalry, but watching this 2009 World Series is almost second guessing it.
