Yankees and Sox Fighting For Santana
Published 11/30/2007 by Brian at Depressed Fan
OK, the Gray Lady has weighed in on the state of the Johan Santana trade talks and it seems like we're at a stalemate right now. Here are the two offers on the table, first the Sox offer: The Red Sox have apparently offered pitcher Jon Lester, center fielder
Coco Crisp, the minor league shortstop Jed Lowrie and another minor
league pitcher. The Twins have been insistent in trying to snare center
fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, a player Boston is unwilling to move. And the Yankee offer: The Yankees have offered pitcher Ian Kennedy, center fielder Melky Cabrera and at least one minor league prospect, perhaps outfielder José Tabata. ...

According to Jack Curry of the NY Times, the Yankees have offered Minnesota a package of Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera and one more minor leaguer. According to Stark, the Red Sox and Yankees are the only two teams ‘willing and able’ to meet that price, though they would still rather not trade Phil Hughes or Jacoby Ellsbury.
Instead, the Yankees continue to push Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera and maybe Jose Tabata, writes ...
Is Epstein using Johan to get Haren?
Published 12/1/2007 by Daniel Rathman at The MLB Source
Disclaimer: this theory is currently nothing more than the latest ruminations of the mind of a morbidly pessimistic Red Sox fan who could very well be completely and utterly mistaken.
As the hours go by and the Johan Santana rumors continue to swirl, it’s looking more and more likely that the Red Sox are playing games with the Yankees and Twins. The prize they want isn’t in the Bronx or the Twin Cities however; rather, Theo Epstein is after Athletics right-hander Dan Haren.
Consider: the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported a few days ago that the Red Sox were the front-runners in the race for the 28 year-old ...
