Down, out, and done

... 2) Even if he's healed, is he physically ready? 3) What if he pitches poorly down the stretch; is it worth the blow to his confidence? 4) If he wasn't ready a week ago, and the team chose Pavano over him, why is he ready now after one decent start? Still, our instinct is that it's worth it to bring him in, just to continue to expose him to major league hitters. Of course, hyper-critical hindsight will be a cinch if Hughes comes back and struggles. UPDATE -- 10:35am: Apparently the team is calling up Alfredo Aceves , who has been on a fast-track through the system this year. ...

Alfredo Aceves called up
Published 8/28/2008 by Andrew Fletcher (ScottProctorsArm@gmail.com) at Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog
The Yankees have called up RHP Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this morning, according to Ed Price. Aceves is 2-3 with a 4.12 ERA for Scranton, striking out 42 and walking 13 in 43 2/3 innings. He posted better numbers for Double-A Trenton, walking only six batters in 50 innings, but his last two starts have shown improvement. This seems to me that the Yankees are trying to see what they have in their system, especially because Aceves was signed out of the Mexican League before the season. It should also be noted that ...

Tragic numbers
The Yankees' tragic numbers in the AL East and wild-card stand at 15 and 20, respectively. This afternoon was more of the same for New York. Andy Pettitte put the Yankees in an early hole, rendering the eight hits and two runs they were able to scratch across Roy Halladay meaningless. Pettitte, making a case to not be brought back next season, had a second straight outing of 10 hits and six ...
Is Yankees New Hurler The Next Dennis Rodman?
Throughout my checkered youth sports career, I always wore the No. 7. Why? Because Ron Jaworski wore the same number, and he was my favorite football player when I was a kid. It was my way of emulating him, and the number stuck with me. Now, I emulate him by growing out a luxurious mustache and hating Tony Kornheiser . The newest member of the New York Yankees also wears a number ...

Aceves Promoted; Robertson Demoted
Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that the Yankees have promoted pitcher Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A. He becomes the first Yankee to wear the number 91. Why? "When I was in high school, I used to watch basketball and the Chicago Bulls," Aceves sai...
Alfredo Aceves Promoted, Robertson Demoted
From Chad Jennings’ SWB blog, here . Apparently Aceves will work out of the pen, despite being a starter all year. I would assume he’d be in line for emergency starts and long relief duty - something the Yankees have been missing since Giese was moved into the rotation. The Yankees really like his stuff and he was extremely effective for most of the year, sweeping through the ...
Alfredo Aceves Promoted
Alfredo Aceves has finally been promoted to big club. It’s about time. Now, hopefully the Yankees will give him Ponson’s spot in the rotation. I can’t stand seeing that worthless piece of junk come out every 5th day only to tax the bullpen and allow 5+ runs. Chad Jennings has the story . By the way, David Robertson was demoted in favor of Aceves. It had to be done. Sorry ...
