... 2) Even if he's healed, is he physically ready? 3) What if he pitches poorly down the stretch; is it worth the blow to his confidence? 4) If he wasn't ready a week ago, and the team chose Pavano over him, why is he ready now after one decent start? Still, our instinct is that it's worth it to bring him in, just to continue to expose him to major league hitters. Of course, hyper-critical hindsight will be a cinch if Hughes comes back and struggles. The Yankees have called up RHP Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this morning, according to Ed Price. Aceves is 2-3 with a 4.12 ERA for Scranton, striking out 42 and walking 13 in 43 2/3 innings. He posted better numbers for Double-A Trenton, walking only six batters in 50 innings, but his last two starts have shown improvement. This seems to me that the Yankees are trying to see what they have in their system, especially because Aceves was signed out of the Mexican League before the season. It should also be noted that ...
