Yankees co-chairman Hal Steinbrenner said Tuesday afternoon that it will be resolved this week. “We’re going to get it done this week, one way or another,” Steinbrenner told Newsday by phone. Brian Cashman will re-sign with Yankees Brian Cashman will return to make close to $2 million per year. In a decision that came down to what was best for his family, $2 million is pretty darn good for any family. Kat O Brien at Newsday is reporting that Brian will sign a three-year contract to return as GM of the New York Yankees. The organization has not yet officially announced the re-signing but will later Tuesday. Newsday reports that Brian Cashman has agreed to a 3 year contract to stay with the Yankees. The real news is that the deal was negotiated wit HAL not HANK, showing that Hal is nudging the big mouth out to the horse pasture and away from baseball.

I have long thought that Ned Colletti would get the axe in a walk year once Brian Cashman became available, and even recall I wrote something about this, but Google isn't cooperating. In any event, it looks like that option is off the table, as the Yanks have signed him to a three-year, $6M deal. Whether that means Ned Colletti will be back as GM is anybody's guess, but certainly the most attractive likely option has been taken off the table. Another option that might appear this offseason is the Phillies' Pat Gillick, though given his age, this might be a real retirement. ...

The article posts official releases from both Cashman and Hank and Hal Steinbrenner. From Cashman: The Steinbrenners' statement: I think it's the right move. Overall I think he's done a good job and there aren't too many alternatives to consider.
