The Yankees have traded minor league shortstop Alberto Gonzalez to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Johnny Nunez . We don't quite get this one unless the Yankees needed to make room on the 40-man roster and didn't want to just lose Gonzalez .

The National Post reports that the Yankees have traded short stop Alberto Gonzalez to the Nationals for 22 year old pitcher Johnny Nunez. Nunez is 2-8 this year with a 4.85 ERA between Single- and Double-A.

The Washington Nationals on Thursday acquired shortstop Alberto Gonzalez from the New York Yankees for righthander Johnny Nunez.
Considered an above-average defensive player, Gonzalez showed very little with the bat in two different stints with the Yankees this season, batting .071 (1-for-14) in 12 games.
