The Yankees are freakin' out: Coming off a 3-7 road trip and with 41 games to go in the season, the Yankees are desperate to get back in the playoff hunt. That desperation has apparently led them to demote struggling centerfielder Melky Cabrera to the minors and waive first baseman Richie Sexson. Both Cabrera and Sexson are dead weight at the moment, but it's not liking getting rid of them is going to turn anything around either. Yeah, it's hindsight, but the real move to have made with Melky would have been to package him with ...

Melky has been demoted to AAA. I don't see Gardner as the next Bernie Williams, but could he really be any worse than .242/.296/.337? Melky has never once in his career been a league average hitter and has gotten worse every season. Saw this on MLB Trade Rumors a minute ago. It comes from a source we don’t enjoy citing, but the news is too big to pass up. Just announced on WFAN, the Yankees have sent Melky Cabrera to the minor leagues. Richie Sexson has been waived, a failed experiment. Desperate times in the Bronx. Cabrera was hitting. 242 and had an OBP of less than .300, which is awful. Sexson was hitting .221 overall between the Mariners and Yankees. He had a hideous 86 strikeouts in 280 at-bats.
